Live By The Gouge, Die By The Gouge

Damn, @ComplexHiAv8r is getting in that ass today! :)

Good show, sir!

Get up in there, son. GEEEET UP IN DAIR!

I thought it was actually refreshing at the SkyWest job fair I went to, and the Captains that were doing the presentation said that they expected interviewees to have spent the time and effort to look for and study the gouge. From their perspective, they said it showed initiative and that candidates were willing to work for the job rather than just having something thrown in their lap with no effort expended.

Prior to my Skywest interview, I did a prep course with a captain who essentially had the whole interview script. I actually deliberately answered a few of the tech questions wrong because I had been prepared for exactly what they asked and didn't want to appear too coached.

At the end of the day, as I walked out of the door, one of the interviewers shook my hand and said "Thanks for showing up prepared." I wasn't sure how to take that, but they offered me a job shortly thereafter, so I guess it was cool.

I wrote a book report on a book which I had only read the Cliff's Notes for. But it was the wrong book.

True story.
Not Delta Material(tm) (C) (R) now or ever.

<micro pause>

WAIT A MINUTE...
Once again, painting in such a broad brush.

Mine weren't fake, they actually happened to me. A well trained interviewer can easily distinguish sincerity and 'I helped an old lady with a wheelchair' type of answers.

Also, most Fortune 500 companies use a variant of the TMAAT format.
I actually did help an old man in a wheelchair across the ramp the day we found a prop oil leak and the (outsourced) station was indifferent towards doing what is normally their job.

Quoting this for effect.

It's kind of like candidates showing up and having no idea about our bases or aircraft.
Although, I guess in their defense we open and close them faster than my ex's legs...

Indeed. Although I 'work' here and really can't keep track of who/what are junior and senior and where we're pushing the Skidoo Jet this week (THANKS ENDEAVOR!).

Also, LOL, I will have to remember that last bit.
Beech 1900 humor.
The almost pure expression of the Hard Prop Life. (The Metro is probably a more pure expression.)

@Autothrust Blue
I didn't want to give specifics, but there was more than one occasion that someone showed up willfully unprepared for the interview. I got a flat day rate so if I was out by noon I was happy.

Also, you really need to change your name to "Autothrust ATTCS"
And lastly, are you flying to YYC on the 14th? I'm going to try to jump on you guys out of ORD.
