Little rant...

Can't say I came up with it myself I heard it as a story somewhere along the way and it was what came to mind when I really wanted to say "SHUT THE ........ UP!"

I know 25-30 mile final doesn't sound that long to the world of ORD/ATL/DEN but if you have ever flown into BWI with it's pseudo/nonexistant downwinds and no STARS that actually set you up like they do for those airports you know that it is stupid busy at that point. Ask dasleben what he is doing when BWI is hard IFR and the final is out to 25 miles (Answer with 90% of controllers: Spinning circles)

Bumping this thread just to let everyone know thatTower Todd has retired late 2014. Yes, the same man who once asked a helicopter pilot if he knew how to read, and changed runway configuration on me when I was downwind on my first ever solo (first take off, we told ground so he knew) for NO reason. Another controller came on and apologized to me after I had to taxi across the airport back to my pissed off CFI...has retired. Gone. LGB is a happy family again!

I'm based out of LGB. We landed one night and it was slow. I realized I hadn't heard him in a while and asked the controller what was up. He said he had retired and had a retirement party. I asked how many people from the tower went. His answer was, "we just heard about it, none of his coworkers were invited" with a chuckle. It's been awesome ever since. For some reason it seems like it's been longer than 2014 though.

Pretty sure every flight school at LGB had a retirement party for him. Its just he wasn't invited!

Todd.....the man who had many "paid vacations" from the FAA. I ran into him at the coffee bean on Cherry and it took all my might not to hit his toy car with my truck. That guy is a piece of work and I'm glad he's gone. The skies around LGB really are safer without him there.
