Life at Compass

^ do you gbe any internal recs?

What's the latest on hiring? How many? When will it stop? Any more rumors of an LAX base?

Hiring is going full steam ahead for the moment, it might quite down during the holidays, and then spool up full steam ahead again. The amount of hiring will be determined by flows, and additional attrition to other carriers, and I believe the company said they wanted to run new hire classes through the June of 2014. The union stated that flows could range from 115-175, as we continue add to new hires to the seniority list, and Delta will likely have to take me then 115 flows as the seniority list gets bigger. It will be easier speculate once official flow notices go out which will happen hopefully soon. LAX flying is going okay from what I have heard, and sometime soon Delta should be implementing phase 2 which has additional west coast flying for Compass hopefully in January. I guess the company is telling both new-hire pilots and FA not to move permanently to DTW if you can avoid it, and take that it for what its worth. I mean who wouldn't want to move to this five star paradise in Michigan! Historically at Compass, Delta shifts our flying around every 6 months to a year, and Delta will have to commit to Compass management that LAX flying is long term in order for a base to open. It certainly could happen, but with this industry who truly knows. I would love to see a LAX base, then I could drive to work, and my fingers are most certainly crossed :-)

Mgmt said back in July that the plan is 180-185 between then and the following June for FT/DT, flows, and people who leave early. the plan was to basically increase the list to ~500 pilots, and recent chatter has said that that flow number/year might be based on the size of the list when they start, which is close to 500 already with the number of people in class.

With the exception of a few morning flights that DL cancelled, everything I have heard is that its going really well.

I would love to see a LAX base...

I've heard from several that they would rather have the base a little closer to MSP (think SLC or something of the sort) than have people all the way out in LA or SFO. They would need a commitment that we wouldn't be going back to LGA, since LGA is pretty much impossible to cover if your closest base is MSP...

Most of the CQs aren't in MSP anymore starting next month, all down in STL...

I am doing my CQ next month in STL, but the company only has the STL sims secured until the end of December as Embraer has bought most of the sim-time for the other US carriers that are adding the E-Jet to their certificate. So the company will have to secure additional sim-time either here in the states or overseas. So stay tuned I guess.

I have heard the same thing from the DTW Chief Pilot that they would prefer a closer base to MSP. However, we are covering the LAX operation quite well from both bases, and it is about the same distance of MSP to LGA. Although, there is much more frequency of flights that go to LAX, SFO, and SLC out of both DTW and MSP then compared to LGA. I have also heard that we may completely pull out of LGA in January which would compliment the expansion of the Phase 2 operation of the west coast that is rumored to happen. So again stay tuned, and it is anybody guess of what will happen when it happens.

The D0, A0, A14 and IFS scores are all above benchmark.

That's easy to do this time of year.

I can promise you that was never the case at Colgan as long as the ACARS was reporting the OOOI times. Keep trolling, nothing to see here.

Huh? When we were five hours late in EWR or LGA the times were the times....

I hear the passing score on the knowledge test at ExpressJet is a 60%, any Compass know are what to take a guess at what it might be at Compass? I've been doing a bunch of studying but man, some of the topics are pretty intense.

When my group interviewed and did the written test- they never told us what the % had to be, or the results for that matter.

I've been told that if something happened- a person would just be told at that moment and sent home.

Not sure of the # though.

I was told historically about 55% or so don't pass the tests. My interview group was 100% successful so you never know. If you put in the time studying I would guess you will do just fine. Sorry, that doesn't really answer your question...

Yea, it seems like it varies day by day.

I guess they don't flow control the poop out of the EM7 like they do the Brasilia and all those other "little" airplanes.
They flow the crap out of everything doing SFO-LAX. When LAX has flow(which is pretty much everyday for reasons I still fail to understand since the airport authority calls the airport "underutilized"), those EMB-175s along with Southwest, United, and American mainline jets are tossed aside to dormant parts of the airport to wait it out.

Everyone in my interview passed the test, and then 3 got washed out in the interview. They keep the actual pass/fail threshold pretty quiet. rumor is it is the same as DL, but thats just a rumor, and good luck finding out from them...

Think of the test is Pass/Fail, you either pass and get to go to the panel interview, or get cab fare... you will think you failed the whole time. Keep at it and don't give up.

Recruiter at XJT told me the 60% too and That Deltas is higher but didn't know what % exactly. With that said I have no clue what Compass's is, just try your best.

That's the plan! I don't know why I'm so terrified of this test. Maybe it's all the unknown or that lots of people aren't making the cut. And I really want the job and don't want to look like a fool.
