Life at Compass

A ticket has already been purchased for my girlfriend, don't worry. She's going to be the fiancée by then, but still won't have a marriage certificate. So I would need her birth certificate?

Edit: I'm not new to this. We frequently non-rev (during major holiday too) and things usually work out ok because we're flexible and structure our travel plans accordingly. As you guys know, certain airports are better than other for non revving, I happen to be in one of those airports.

You need two documents that prove financial dependence and that you two share the same address.for example, bank account, utility bills, etc

Are you trying to nonrev during the holidays? I would strongly suggest not even trying unless you're super flexible in your travel times.

As a new hire I don't see you going anywhere within 10 days of Christmas.

To add a spouse just bring your marriage certificate and you should be golden. Birth certs for kids or parents (your birth certificate of course).

Luck be with you if you're trying to travel in December.

I don't know, I've yet to work a Thanksgiving or Christmas in seven years, and I always fly to where I grew up for each of them, and I often get first class and I don't think I have ever been in the jumpseat one single time now that I think of it.

I think it comes down to, if there are 5 flights that day, and you want to go in the evening but they look iffy and some 10AM flight is wide open, don't push it, just go early. That type of thing.

didnt want to say anything until it was announced but they told us that when we started training 2 weeks ago....supposedly they want to send the CA upgrades there but will send new hires as well.

What's the word on STL? Any love for new hires?

I did my initial sim training at Colgan at Flight Safety in MCO.

Sounds a lot cooler than it really is.

Sounds like 24/7 per diem for a month and a hotel room though, like back in the day, which is a lot cooler than Minnesota!

Cooler in a metaphorical sense, of course.

Even Colgan provided you a Hotel room during initial. You had a roommate, but it was provided. What is ALPA doing about that @amorris311?

Good point about it being between one of the most overrated cities in the USA and MCO. MCO still sounds a lot cooler than it was. :)

I am asking about getting hotel rooms provided when a new hire is in one of the most overrated cities in the USA. What is ALPA doing about that?
I ask once again; what is ALPA supposed to do about it? I wish we were allowed to set the standards for hiring but that ship sailed and we have other issues that require our attention to improve their lives once they are on the line. It wasn't that long ago when you were in my position so you know what I am talking about. The company made it public today that they are planning on using the simulators in MCO. For newhires I think they will continue keeping it single occupancy when they go down there. Most likely they will be paired with new captains so the footprint won't be as long if it were two fo's. This of course is all subject to change.

Negotiate for single occupancy hotel rooms when in one of the most overrated cities in the USA. We had it at Pinnacle! As a matter of fact I think they still do...UNDER A BANKRUPTCY CONTRACT!!!

No one is talking about the hiring standard. We are talking about ALPA negotiating something that the new hires should have...single occupancy hotel rooms while in MSP. Or are you throwing the new hires under the bus?

Listen, it has always been that way here, and I don't need my union using negotiating capital on that. It sucks, but it is the truth. Everyone on the property has had to do it, so the will to get it changed is really really low.

What will happen, is when the company has a harder time attracting applicants it will need to sweeten the deal by providing lodging for them. If people don't want to come here because of the hotel issue, that is their choice. It obviously hasn't been a problem yet, and doesn't look like it will be one in the next 12 months.

A lot of folks went through a lot at a place like Colgan. Then they actively worked to change it (and use negotiating capital) to make sure folks not on property yet didn't have to do that again.
