Life at Compass

I put my app in about a week and a half ago, got the email for the interview about 4 days ago. It seems like they are really trying to fill that pool up! I've scheduled my interview there next month. So far have been going over the willflyforfood and aviationinterviews gouges, does anyone else have any additional study information for the interviews? I really don't want to mess this up.

The gouges spot on.

Study the topics on the outline they sent you for the knowledge test. Between 'The Turbine Pilot's Flight Manual' and 'Aerodynamics for Naval Aviators' pretty much everything on the knowledge test is covered.

The cog test is, um, interesting. Just keep working away and don't get discouraged. It'll probably feel like you're doing terrible, you aren't. Everyone feels that way doing the thing. Just keep going and doing your best and it'll work out fine.

The face-to-face portion is pretty scripted, but the panel is made up of some really good people. Just be yourself. Everyone here wants you to be successful.

Good luck!

Yes, all this. Just relax, the interviewers set a good tone.

Good luck!

Would you mind putting your qualifications here?

Yes, please. I applied back in February on airline apps, update it every two weeks and not a peep. ATP, 2200TT, 500 ME, 440 turbine SIC, E170/190 PIC type rating, current 121 gig....

Have you all checked your spam mail? Sometimes stuff gets sent there.
Daily... LOL Thanks for the thought though. This whole airline hiring thing just seems to be voo doo and black magic to me. No rhyme or reason... I shall continue to update!!!!

4yr degree with 3.0+ gpa?

No, an AS in aviation science, came with the A&P license I earned 25 years ago but I don't recall that being asked for that info on the airline apps application.... Do you actually think that could be it? If it is I guess I'm SOL and stuck at my current gig.... Which apparently has no such requirement to fly the same airplane... Interesting... Anyway thanks for the info guys. I'll look into some job fairs..

Unfortunately yea, that's likely why you haven't been called... And yes the GPA matters too

Have heard this GPA talk before. Had a friend of the family get hired a few years ago with a horrible GPA. Great guy, just had a little too much fun in college.

GPA isn't the biggest factor I'm sure. If your friend had a strong resume in other areas, i.e. tough degree, lots of hours, no failed checkrides, no tickets, volunteering at 10 orphanages, or maybe just worked to get facetime with a recruiter then a less than stellar GPA could easily be made up for. If your buddy didn't have anything like that, then he got the luck of the draw. Sometimes when the moon is just right, a resume gets pulled and an interview is offered.

Yeah, I reviewed my Airline Apps application last night and found the the education section that I didn't remember filling out but I did..... Alas, no Compass for me.... I suppose every airline has a right to set their own requirements. I was fortunate to land at one that didn't require a 4 year degree.. Thanks again for the info guys, it is appreciated.

Yeah, I've got ATP, 2000TT, 1120 ME, 770 Turbine 121, 4 year degree, plus a letter of recommendation from a Compass pilot I used to work with. He walked in my resume for me.

Thanks, those are the two books I've been carrying around during this 4 day trip.

You have to actually READ them, not carry them around...haha I keeeed.

Compass is definitely unique. It's the only place I did not get a call from. I still update my stuff with them, but not 100% sure if I'd jump ship for it right now. Tough call!

Do airlines know your GPA if u don't list it? I've never listed my GPA on any resume, and just assumed they didn't know how much beer I consumed in college.

Not looking to derail the conversation - but if any MSP based guys would be willing to rent out a room to a new low-income FO - please PM me

There are some crashpads and other places for rent listed in the MSP crewroom. Next time you're at the airport stop by and check 'em out. There are a few others up in the hallway that are, I dunno, from the Endeavor or SkyWest guys?

Craigslist might work out too. I don't know if any of the universities rent out dorms for the summer, but St. Thomas, Macalester and U of M are all within 20 minute drive of the airport and/or schoolhouse.

Good luck.

It's considered implied that if you don't put your GPA on your resume, then it's probably not very good or at the very least below their standards, in this case <3.0. It's not worth lying about either because at least at Compass they make you order official transcripts and send them directly to HR. They may offer you a CJO, but if/when your transcripts come in and they're not what you said they were, then you may be SOL.
