Life at Compass

Oooh, Sounds snazzy. I think pink would totally rock though. :-)

Sorry, I'm a little loopy. Just finished up my final trip as a freight dog. Up at 0200 for a 0300 show and into Sioux Falls around 0500. Grabbed a few hours of sleep at the hotel, hung out all day then back to Anoka at 1820. Grabbed something to eat and a BIG cup of coffee then left for DPA around 2115. Shut down at 0108 and that was that.

Been a brutal month. :-)

Pink tie for Breast Cancer Awareness month can totally be rocked!

Myself and a few others do it!

Those CBTs are a real treat! I must say. Did you guys take lots of notes for the GOS modules?

Here's a tip- copy and paste the text from the slide to a word document. When it comes time to take the test for each module it will be a no brainer. For GOS, just have those home study questions in the training folder done, correct, and memorized. Have a basic understanding of the aircraft, memorize the limitations and memory items, and don't get too crazy memorizing profiles and calls- there will be time for that later.

Awesome, thanks!

No prob. My experience with the training here was a positive one. At my previous airline, we were sequestered away from friends and family for a month and a half on a 6 on/1 off schedule. Ground school ran 10 hours a day once breaks and lunch were factored in. Here at Compass, the entire program took longer overall, but I was afforded ample time to spend with the wife, jumpseat back to Mass to see my family, and just sit around and be lazy! I came to class prepared and really put a basic amount of effort into studies once here and I've received nothing but positive feedback from the instructors. I had time off for thanksgiving, xmas, and new years- but I started GOS in mid November and will be taking the LOE this week.

Thanks for the info! I'm just getting going and I've found the process to be pleasant. Like I said, I'm just starting, but the home study seems really nice (already 10 mods done in 2 days) when you can do it in sweats and a pot of coffee by your side. The program after we come back seems a lot less stressful compared to some friends who went elsewhere. Really looking forward to all the next steps.

Have fun with the IFR Nav one! ;)

Ugh. 2 hours of intense pain and that sucker is knocked down.

I gotta give props for the home-study thing. It's really nice to power along at your own pace and take a break when it gets to be too much. It helps that it's minus-infinity out, of course. It's not like I'm itching to go outside.

Ah well, only 7 more modules to go and then.... systems. :-)

And good luck to everyone interviewing this week!

Do you guys on the line have any tips for us that are just finishing training? Any tips, tricks, shortcuts, etc. thanks!

Vertical direct to is your friend. Don't be afraid to use it if you have to level off and you start getting over the VNAV PTH that is drawn out. Sometimes the vnav will do weird things, this is one of the faster ways to get the vnav back working for you and not against you.

don't try to slow down and descent to a speed and crossing restriction in vnav doing more than 2.9 degrees or so...

sometimes pulling on the printer paper a little (not hard) will get it to print when it says print fail on the MCDU…

be humble, it doesn't matter where you came from or what you did…remember that most everyone here came from somewhere else…

and have a good attitude, it makes the trips way more enjoyable...

With VNAV make a couple "between" restrictions a hard altitude that meets the requirement. Specifically on the ALDAN1 into RDU and whatever arrival they make you do into IAD. Makes life much easier.

Paper advance button helps too when the printer isn't responding. Saves having to declare an emergency.
