Life at Compass

I know where you're going with this, but you'd still have the emergency brake. Hardly checklist worthy.

So you're saying the potential for the complete loss of brakes is not checklist worthy?

Think off all the possible bad combinations that could happen with ground equipment and personnel in close proximity and the sudden loss of brakes resulting in an unplanned aircraft movement.

Good luck explaining why you hit something during your carpet dance.

Not a complete loss of brakes, emergency brake through the accumulators.

Okay dude, I know a lot of our planes are getting old and tired, but I assure you, the accumulators provide enough pressure after the AC pump shuts off to provide brake pressure until we're at the gate an hour later.

Sorry, that's a normal shutdown without turning off the RED BCN, FASTEN SEAT BELT, and STERILE lights...right?

(probably some pumps too, since IMS Compass runs them manually, or at least they did the last time I rode up there)

You guys don't turn on the pumps? You do realize "Auto" is far from perfect in this thing, right?

Okay E-Jet drivers... pop quiz time.

You pull up to your tow in gate to find no ground crew. Since it is a tow in gate, you decide to go ahead and set the parking brake and shut down both engines. You get busy talking with ops because it seems it might be a bit of a delay. What happens after 6 minutes??

Hint: @Autothrust Blue was thinking along the right track...
My pump quits running in System 2. My accumulators, which, thus far, are new, will work. However, I will wager ones that are "gently" used will work less vigorously.

All this back and forth about tow in.... Isn't the Golf gate no longer a tow-in anymore as of this week? It was on the dispatch release remarks.

Is there another tow in gate I'm missing?

Just run the checklist, man.

The memo said that the G gate is no longer tow-in, but it also mentioned that a Tow-In procedure was being added to the QRH anyway

Again, for the millionth time, there's a REASON. One day when you guys have some time operating them you may be able to make fun of other carriers for their procedures. Hopefully the electro jet doesn't bite you.

Is this an LAX thing? I hear due the narrow alley's all or most planes are being towed to the gate. Tons of pics on a.net of 757's being towed.

Not in any of the gates I've been too on the delta side and only the 44G in the Eagle remote terminal is (was? haven't read comply in a couple of days) a tow in gate. Everything else out there is a power in gate.

I drove on to 44G two weeks ago. I mentioned to the F.O. at the time that it would have been nice to see a read file about it. I 'm glad I was able to figure out what was going on before I shut down and FWIW the brake accumulators should be good for 6-8 full applications before they go flat with no pumps operating.

What if I need a 9th application of the emergency brake? Then what?

In LAX anything larger than a 73* that goes to gates less than 54A* get towed in, I do know the e170s and 717s don't need to be towed to any gate. We our supposed to limit the amount of time we have thrust pointing towards the other side of the alley. Basically if you start turning towards a gate you're not supposed to stop, if you stop you'll be told to shutdown and get towed.

* I don't work for Delta so I'm not too sure on the details, this is just what I have seen. You know that one time you get cleared into the Alley behind some 75 that needs to be towed.
