Life at Compass

The arbitrators decision is out. Highlights include a 1.25% increase across the board with annual 1.25% increases for 6 years. Min day is up to 4 hrs and deadhead is 80% Per diem went up as well as vacation credits and sick call credit. There are a lot of other good changes too.
Also: Longevity date resets to date of hire and all pick ups go on top of guarantee with a short window to allow for 125% pick ups.

while the 1.25% is slightly disappointing… this isn't bad at all…especially for a contract with TSH...
Hey man in the current environment anything with a plus sign is good. More importantly you seem to have looked over the bigger things that will make you more money...pay rates are a small part of the equation.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm happy. The work rules and other changes were all positive. Especially in a time when people seem to be signing concessionary contracts...

Report early, fly long time, return to base late a few days later. Wash, rinse, repeat.

In all seriousness I think it will be a lot of shuttle flights between LAX, SFO and SEA. Some SLC, MCI and DFW mixed in to keep the planes moving through the system.

Not what I meant. Will it be mostly 1, 2, 3, or 4 day pairings?

Rumored to be likely 1 and 2 day pairings from the manager of crew planning, but that could change at a moments notice if history has dedicated anything at Compass. Hope this helps

Looks like I'm joining your tribe. Jan. 2 orientation then home for CBT.

Can't wait. After five and half winters of single-pilot freight in Minnesota and the Dakotas it's going to be.... awesome. :-)

It sounds like the scheduling for LAX is starting to firm up and I'll find out soon enough, but is it looking like it'll be reasonably commutable from MSP?

I'm going on the assumption that I'll be out there for a while to start and have a few relatives out that way I'm starting to butter up in case I wind up needing a place to crash.

And how does seniority get assigned? Some combination of DOH + age (ie, oldest in a class is most senior) or SSN or is it just random within a class?

Everyone I've met from CP has been just great so I'm really looking forward to joining you guys.

Cheers!

Will

Welcome William, seniority is age. LAX commute looks like it would be ok. Lots of mainline metal but I don't have any experience between msp-lax.

Congrats, welcome aboard Will, and were very glad to have here at Compass! Seniority gets assigned by age, and yes the oldest in the class would be the most senior pilot. The commute between MSP and LAX is more then commutable, most flights have 10 to 15 seats open with a couple of non-revs, and multiple flights a day. I will be starting this commute come January of 2014 when I switch bases and come the promised land, so I have been looking at this particular commute myself. With all the hiring that still has to happen, I would say if assigned LAX you should be able to hold MSP within a few bids or so. However, hard to tell how strong of a presence Compass will have with crews on the west coast, and that could also be an indicator of how quickly you get back to MSP if assigned LAX. The worst part about your future winters here will be the winter workarounds, and this aircraft has no problem being heated or cooled when in the cockpit :) Hope this helps answer your questions, let us know if you have any more questions, and once again a warm welcome aboard here at Compass :)

A friend of mine lived in MSP and was LAX based on the Bro for a while, he said he never had any issues making the commute. I don't know how commutable the trips might be for you guys but as far as getting on the airplanes each way he said he always made it. Sometimes it was up front but most often he had a seat in back.

Not exactly specific info to go on but I hope it helps!

Congrats Will!

I'm pretty sure I flight instructed with you back in 07 at a flight school in the ANE/STP and I'm glad to be working with you again.

I bet you'll be at MSP within a couple months. Hopefully a CA just a couple years after that!
