So the contract maintenance guy had to be called out?Sub par....ended up having to have compass mx come out to fix it
It was a compass guy that ended up coming out when we called ops for mx to come back out. We had about a 2 hr sit there and dl mx came out and fixed one of the write ups while we were off the airplane. When we got back to the plane the logbook was signed off but SDI wasn't (I've since learned mainline doesn't have a SDI sheet) and the orange sticker was still in place. We called ops to send them back out and the compass guy showed up. This was something like the first week mainline took over so I'm sure there were still kinks being worked outSo the contract maintenance guy had to be called out?
You guys have had some of your maintence people up here to get Delta mechanics trained in your procedures. It was a compass guy that ended up coming out when we called ops for mx to come back out. Spoke to a Compass MX guy in Seattle yesterday and he said everyone there is being laid off, and not even being interviewed by Delta MX there.
Why would they be interviewed by Delta MX?
You'd have to ask him, as he was the one who said it.
My guess is that he was saying there wasn't an opportunity to keep his same job with the new provider of the same services.
Last time I checked, Compass is the outsourced provider. Big difference.
Why would they be interviewed by Delta MX?
There are no Compass mechanics here in SEA. They are employed by STS, which is a contract maintenance company. We just hired a bunch of AMTs in October and are staffed to our designated head count, so there are no openings at this time.Spoke to a Compass MX guy in Seattle yesterday and he said everyone there is being laid off, and not even being interviewed by Delta MX there.
Oh I don't know..maybe because the guys are familiar with the aircraft and it happens a lot. Is it outrageous for an airline to hire people with experience already on the airplane? Yes, we get it Seggy...it's outsourced.

To answer the original question of this thread....
Avoid compass at all costs. If you are human and make mistakes, do not come here. You will put your career in jeopardy by flying here. I have seen our probationary F/O's and even captains get section 19 hearings for no good reason, most of them ending in termination. (we have had more section 19 hearings in the past year than united or delta did in the last 5 years. ) Issues that are normal at other airlines and accepted as circumstances of life are blown way out of proportion here by the chief pilots. The thug mentality that is at the top tier of management is now in our chief pilots office. I have never seen and heard about such poor relations between the chiefs pilots and the pilot group in my 10 years of airline flying. Pilots have been fired here for something as simple as leaving an ID behind to literally no reason what so ever. No over exaggeration. The mistakes most of the pilots have made are simple, honest, and not malicious. The management doesn't care and the chiefs don't care. Since the new wave of chiefs took over, I have never felt like they have my back; always left out to dry. The chiefs use to call and harass pilots about fatiguing but that got shut down after one of our pilots made an anonymous phone call to the FAA about it. Hasn't happened since...
Additionally, our pilot group is weak and our union is getting stepped on by management, mainly because we are down to one rep as opposed the a fully staffed 3 reps. But, our union rep is a great guy and does what he can.
Overall, the leadership is poor. I know a lot of current compass pilots know about the crap that goes on here and I hope they will speak up. This place has gone way down hill from what it use to be.
I personally have not been bothered by management or had issues here but I have seen that once you are on their radar, you cannot get off no matter what you do. Work here at your own risk.
Aside from all the above nonsense, this place doesn't have much to offer anymore. There is no delta flow, upgrade time is getting close to RJ industry average, pay is low....just to name a few things. I would strongly consider going to Endeavor or Skywest. Both are great companies, pay better, have better management and have excellent pilot/chief pilot relationship. Take what you want from this post, I just hope you steer clear of CPZ and go to a supportive airline that will help advance your career.

Perhaps they are, I don't know. What I do know is that I lost my job when heavy mx was outsourced to the lowest bidder. OAKUM and INDOV closed (wide bodies went to China and South Korea and narrow bodies got spread all over the south to right to work states) and virtually every backshop at the MOC at SFO was farmed out. Place turned into a ghost town. That is a lot of work and jobs that will never be recaptured. One thing that amazes me is the amount of line maintenance stations we have. I haven't dealt with an outsourced mechanic in a long time. I know outsourcing happens, especially for the heavy checks, but don't think it is that greater than the others. From what I've read they are starting to in source more and more again finally...
Regardless, outsourcing sucks.
Yes we all work at the same compass.
I would suggest talking to our union and getting the facts. Some people deserve the 19's but most are completely uncalled for and it doesn't seem to be getting better. Personally I am not unhappy here; upgrade was fairly quick when I started, the flying is easy and the schedule has been good to me. But, i would hate to see someone new to the airlines come here, make a small mistake and get fired for it. endeavor or Skywest would be better considerations for those just starting.
Nobody wants to hear this , I get it, but after seeing how management has treated some of our good pilots, I feel like something needs to be said.
