Life at Compass

Looks like my new hire (10/14) buddy and I have a June 1st upgrade class - incredible. Time to study! I'm running through a few of these upgrade CBT's on my layovers.
I would be careful doing CBTs while you're supposed to be on rest. It was a different FSDO, but at one time the FAA had an issue with people doing CBTs while they were supposed to be free from all duty.

All this time I thought completing quarterly training on my laptop during the overnight was simply an effective use of my time.

I imagine I'll receive additional guidance as upgrade approaches...one day.

Finally got a call back to interview.

1. What would the upgrade outlook be for a June/July hire? (I would have upgrade minimums)

2. In addition to the Delta travel benefits, is there an ID90 program?

1. my complete guess is if you were in class in June, with the time, you would be in an Aug/Sep upgrade
2. yes, kick in after 6 months of employment

Kinda a gamble though, nobody knows for sure. If you miss it you really miss it and will be waiting a while. I'm not sure how many ugrades are left between whats been awarded and the qouta for flows+attrition+AA growth. Right now there is 100+ bypassed FOs that get closer to holding CA every day. I'm thinking over 150 guys have upgraded or been awarded a class so far since the beginning of the year

As much as I would love a quick upgrade, does anyone else think that 12-18 months is a little too quick? I mean some of these pilots may have been flying 172's a year and a half ago and now they are a captain of a jet airliner. With that said I don't fly 121 so I don't know the culture.

It's 1k 121 sic in addition to 2500 tt 1k multi or 2k tt 1500 multi

You act like Compass is the first airline to do this...

Did i say only Compass? No. I understand the time requirement but that is still a lot of growing to do in that amount of time.

It depends on the person upgrading. Some are ready after a month in the right seat. Some are never ready. Regardless, it's better than the old rules where someone could upgrade at 1,500 total time with zero time in the right seat.

As long as the training department upholds their integrity and new captains are AWARE of the fact they may not know everything, it will be just fine. I don't see why even a couple new guys can't make sound decisions if CRM is used.

I really like what I have seen from all the new captains I've flown with. Really good utilization of dispatch, scheduling, company manuals, and me... the other pilot. That's why there's two of us up there, right? :)

Thanks for the safe ride the other day. You flew with a great Captain too. He discuss his hang gliding adventures at all?

No actually I would have liked to hear about that. And i didn't realize that was you at first on that flight haha

Can't miss him

at least he showed up when he was supposed to fly with you.....when he was supposed to fly with me he delayed his inbound flight and refused to run to the gate.....something about a snowstorm or some other terrible excuse
