Layover food

lol I didn’t know chicken skin was a thing in Japan until I tried them at a konbini. Instead of leaving the chicken skin on the chicken and selling it to you for once price, Japan decided to do a Spirit and charge extra for chicken skin. To go with your chicken.

I've seen people have it (chicken skin yakitori) in food travel shows, but haven't myself. Any good? Or is it gross? I know Asia sometimes prefers textures that westerners do not.

It’s fantastic!

In Japan it’s crispy with a slight chew. Grilled over the Yakatori you get an amazing flavor of charcoal and they baste it with a Tare to give it some incredible umami.

Sotto Mare, San Francisco. For the AA and DL folks, 17 minute walk from the hotel.

I usually hit up Chinatown when I get a long SFO, but after walking through the Italian neighborhood last time around, I've decided I'm giving it a go next time. Some pretty authentic looking places which is tough to find in my area...South Jersey....loaded with Italians, but maybe one or two actual authentic Italian joints.

Got stuck in Vegas for a week, Went to Mizumi in the Wynn. Chef sampler is a bit expensive ($300 ish?) but the food was absolutely fantastic. I am not a huge sushi fan and very much enjoyed it…

Ehh. Not a huge fan of Dutch food so I just went to the old trusty Cafe de Klos for some ribs in AMS:

And stopped for a 1700 “night cap” because I had a 0800 van time the next morning and I use minimum 12h before alarm time for any of the devils ale:

I don’t know, I just call it “The Monkey Bar”:
