landing a real airliner.

"I'm a plane named pullback. Ya gotta say the whole thing!"

I get the impression that our new user "Phil" isn't really a captain... :)

I don't know how to use autoland. no im not really a captain im just posing shhhhhhhhhhh. ;-). No im just a student pilot really.

I'll give you $50 if you could take an MD-88 from off-airway at 10,000 and perform a successful autoland without heavy coaching!

Oh psh...yeah right!

Im talking about if someone tells you word for word how to put the information in, to autoland and such. Also, didnt put it up, but i was implying some sarcasm too.

And for the other statement about "being easy" im referring to an actual pilot for that plane. Now, im not saying it's easy either, clarifying that up, and still giving the much needed respect for a pilot.

Landing an airliner is easy. I have 7,000 hours in FS9 and I could land the space shuttle if I had to...:sarcasm:
damn should i add the shuttle to my type ratings? i should update my times too....

(in all seriousness, i did the cargo dfw-atl and a couple of the european airline pilot trips today)

yup, im a loser :)

Hope you sped up the flight. Flying in cruise does really nothing..but just sit and sit and sit.

Add in a position report, convincing the captain that you're NOT INTERESTED in his multi-level marketing speil, a ACARS position report and throw in a sodoku puzzle or two, that's flying international.

Before I started flying small GA airplanes, I managed "safely" land a United 777 in the simulator at the United training center here in Denver. I had someone else "talking me down" but in my first attempt I was way too fast so I went around and then came back and landed it smoothly on the beginning of the runway. I was using a 12000' long runway and used about 11,990' of it. I ended up thinking I was hot sh*t and on the next attempt the instructor whipped out a microburst on final and I ended up crashing about 1/4 mile short of the runway... Killed everyone on board, not bad huh?

A few years later, after I got my private I managed to land a A319 in the simulator at CAE every time... I did end up rolling into the potomac at DCA once though.

In short, if an average joe from 12b is trying to do the real thing, start saying your prayers!

I'm the sure "fifty, For'E, Thir'E, Twen'E, Ten....retard..." didn't help with the scarebus, eh? :)

i never speed up the dfdub-atl flight for some reason.

hongkong to sanfran is a different story though :)

anyone every dl the xb70? that thing is cool. I wonder if it really burned that much fuel

Hahaha

Sounds like a lot of fun!

Sheesh, man, all you guys crack me up.

Let's put it like this. I've got my ticket. Without bragging too much, I had a guy who won the DFC in 'Nam tell me I'm a good stick. I've been doing a lot of flying with others as I work on my instrument rating, and I know I'm better than a lot of these guys.

Timbuff can tell you I'm not the kind of guy who will break an airplane when I land it. He may rag me for relaxing on the yoke on a 5000 foot runway instead of using aerodynamic braking, but the airplane was in good shape when I was done with it.:)

They dropped me in a sim for a 737-200.

Even with a guy sitting right next to me who has flown transport category aircraft coaching me every step of the way, and being already established on final, I pranged it hard. Suffice it to say that if I landed like that when I flew with Tim, he'd be telling everyone don't fly with Tony.

So you'll excuse me if I laugh when I hear people who have very little time in a real airplane of any sort saying landing a transport category airplane is easy.

Just clearing it up, im not speaking for myself, but rather someone who flies the actual plane.

Hard for me to fly a airliner? Absolutely, can barely get it on the ground, and that's after being guided EVERY step.

Hard for an actual airline pilot? I wouldnt think it's that hard for them. They understand what's going on, how to fly it, and the things required to fly it.

I've personally been told by a Delta Captain, that the '67 (767) is an easy plane to fly.

So excuse me for my ignorance.

hey everyone, don't fly with Tony! Nah, just kidding, you did great... It was nice to fly with someone that I didn't have to grab the controls on. In fact, I would like to do it again if I can find some time when I am out there again.

As far as slamming the airliner into the ground... At the time, I didn't realize you need to land with power. I am used to pulling the power in the flare pretty much and then landing at idle. When I was in the airbus sim, I pulled the power to idle when I was over the numbers and I practically fell out of the sky at that point. In fact, I hit so hard that a panel from the ceiling back by the computer station/jump seat fell to the ground.

Flying is easy - I just sit in the back and drink. I have people like Doug to do the hard work!!!

THANKS DOUG!

I keep you in business young man - without passengers who like to pay $5 for a tin of beer, the airlines have no chance.
