Technically in this case it was a pissing match between Kegseth and Bedford. I'm sure Trump wouldn't be able to locate El Paso on a map.Everything you don't like is Trumps fault. That's a plan for happiness, not a good one, but it's still a plan.
The only reason I know about it is from an old song and driving through it multiple times. It's supposed to be one of the safest cities in the country, I never stopped because it did not appear safe. You seem knowledgeable, tell us about El Paso. I will say that as you cross the border into Texas there is an enormous American flag flying and once you get past El Paso the speed limits increase to 80 mph. I've heard El Paso is nice but I never even stopped to take a leak.Technically in this case it was a pissing match between Kegseth and Bedford. Been there many times. I have heard the same as you have, it's the safest city in America. No idea if that's true but I've never felt unsafe walking around there. The only reason I know about it is from an old song and driving through it multiple times. It's pretty much what Albuquerque could be if not for a deep rooted gang culture, massive drug problem, lack of economic opportunity (in part due to crime and poor education) etc etc. Lived in ABQ for 7.5 years and always thought of El Paso as what it could be if it lived to its potential.Been there many times. I think Carmel Indiana is actually the safest city/town in the country. I'm sure you'll fact check me with some statistics about incomes and what not, but until then I'll stand by what I said.Been there many times. I actually won't. Like I said, I heard the same rumor you did about ELP and wouldn't even know how to fact check it.I think Carmel Indiana is actually the safest city/town in the country. has anyone checked to see if he’s in the files?
I dig El Paso as well as Juarez. Great food, cool vibe. Not sure what it's like since the Trump II regime has started. One of the coolest parts was the back and forth foot traffic between the two countries for shopping and such. I know because of various stances Abbott has taken and the couple times he created logjams at the international crossings the shops in El Paso (and I assume Juarez) were pretty severely impacted. The only reason I know about it is from an old song and driving through it multiple times. I think the distinction was "Safest Big City" in America. El Paso is not as big as the four cities to the east but it's pretty good sized and the MSA includes Juarez making it a fairly substantial metro area.Been there many times. Good for you, I never even got off the highway. 33 gallons of fuel at approximately 20mpg dictated my stops and El Paso was not amongst them. I could see Mexico though, so I guess that was cool.I dig El Paso as well as Juarez. Great food, cool vibe. Not sure what it's like since the Trump II regime has started. I was going to say "laughs in Anchorage" because I never found ABQ to seem that sketch compared to where I grew up, but hadn't been there in like 10 years and I just checked the stats and Albuquerque is substantially rougher now and has basically been substantially rougher than ANC my whole life. Check out this cool data visualizer the FBI hasIt's pretty much what Albuquerque could be if not for a deep rooted gang culture, massive drug problem, lack of economic opportunity (in part due to crime and poor education) etc etc. Lived in ABQ for 7.5 years and always thought of El Paso as what it could be if it lived to its potential.
Looking forward to visit Corpus Christi soonI'm a fan of border towns along the Texas/Mexico border. Never had any problems in them, nice people in Mexico, and always kind of liked the atmosphere of the cross border relationships between the two cities which generally is fairly cooperative (for economic reasons). Not sure the current numbers but in the before times the foot traffic between El Paso and Juarez was around 75k people per day in 2016. As of 2024 the average daily foot traffic between the two was 35k or so. About 70% of north-bound foot traffic are Mexicans shopping in El Paso so the diminished numbers have a negative impact on the local and state economy. Add in Abbott's extracurricular border activities, and his severely bottlenecking of truck transit whenever he decides "enhanced inspections" are needed (inflationary) and it is an exercise in stupidity. Cross border trade is one of the most significant pillars of the Texas economy. How this state could vote fore a President so hostile to free trade baffles me. How the state elected go along shock me - except for Dan Patrick. I've known he was a fool since the early 1980's.
Yeah, ABQ has gotten really bad. I first lived in NM (Santa Fe) from 2006 until 2014. ABQ was kinda meh back then...moved to ABQ in 2015 and noticed it was worse....by the time I moved back to the east coast in early 2023 it was pure mayhem. Started hearing gunshots in my previously quiet neighborhood and my last week there I was flashed at a gas station by a tweaker and watched a naked man pushing a shopping cart down the street....on the same day.I was going to say "laughs in Anchorage" because I never found ABQ to seem that sketch compared to where I grew up, but hadn't been there in like 10 years and I just checked the stats and Albuquerque is substantially rougher now and has basically been substantially rougher than ANC my whole life. Anyway, these are violent crimes per capita, query1 is ANC, query2 is ABQ, and query3 is ELP

What's really interesting to me is that ELP was way rough in the 90s and mellowed out substantially and ABQ was like, "YOLO, amirite?"
ABQ is a cesspool, I don't leave anything in the rental car when I'm assigned there. It's pretty much what Albuquerque could be if not for a deep rooted gang culture, massive drug problem, lack of economic opportunity (in part due to crime and poor education) etc etc. Lived in ABQ for 7.5 years and always thought of El Paso as what it could be if it lived to its potential.
Haha, standard Mt View life - to be honest, now that I live in relatively benign south Anchorage I kind of miss the crazy a little bit. There's just so much weirdness that you experience here.Started hearing gunshots in my previously quiet neighborhood and my last week there I was flashed at a gas station by a tweaker and watched a naked man pushing a shopping cart down the street....on the same day.
