KDMA an uncontrolled field.

Due to a fire and halon discharge in the tower the other day. Apparently, damage is enough to put the tower out of commission UFN. One huge CTAF field.

That being the case, I'm glad they don't work near the traffic we did back when I was there.

Bet they run everything from the RSU in a few days , or they can set up some chairs on the roof of base ops where the old tower was, i remember it well !!!!!

The Air Force has mobile control towers. Pretty standard item. I'd bet there is one at KDMA by now.

They have a guy with a PRC-117, but no real range to cover the entire surface area. So the aerodrome is essentially closed right now except for BP and Alert det, who will only be making real-world launches. Helicopters are good to go, with an east to south low level departure created to expedite you clear of the surface area.

I know, I'm saying some of these places are so poor that they've never had permanent towers. Port au Prince comes to mind.

CHD had a temp tower for the longest time before getting their permanent one.

DMA's Civil Engineering people need to bring in RED HORSE and build one of these ATC towers, quick-like:

We're an extremely busy airspace here mister. U90 makes N90 look like child's play...

:)

TEB almost had to evacuate the tower a couple weeks ago due to smoke. Fortunately it just turned out to be a short and they didn't, but it would have gotten mighty interesting.
