KDMA an uncontrolled field.

That was a joke. I was Air Force, so I never worked raw, but I was trained on how to read the beacon control slashes and an still do so today.

When I left the AF for N90 I thought we were going to have all this state of the art equipment and huge learning curve. Instead N90 was still using ARTS/IIIE. It was like stepping back in time. We just got STARS online here earlier this year or late last year, can't remember exactly
 
  • Helicopter operations are normal departure and arrival procedures.


  • VHF frequency use only; local controllers are using a PRC-117 mobile radio only.


  • IFR flight plans will be issued the following clearance: “On departure, maintain VFR, fly heading 120/300, maintain 070, expect IFR clearance with departure, departure frequency (freq), squawk (code)”.


  • DMA VFR patterns are closed. The only VFR approach authorized are VFR Straight-In approaches.

  • Tower being repaired and renovated, not anticipated to be completed until early summer.
