Kansas City PEPC

I know someone mentioned it already, about the comfy shoes, but... HOw are we to dress? Comfy shoes = Pumas...suit + Pumas = odd first impression? Any suggestions on full head to toe outfits (for men)?

THANKS!

I think if you wore a dress it would make an even more odd first impression ;)

For all of you staying at the Hyatt, it's a very nice hotel. I think you will really enjoy staying there--and $55/night is an incredible price. It is across the street from Crown Center, which has shopping, restaurants, theatre, etc. Down the street a couple blocks is Union Station. There's not a lot to see at Union Station, but the building itself is worth a quick trip. There is an above ground tunnel connecting Crown Center & Union Station. For those planning on a Chief's game, make sure you have a rental car. The stadium is not located downtown--it's a bit of a drive. You should have no trouble getting tickets since they are not playing so good this year. I know a lot of season ticket holders who can't give their tickets away. Craigslist may have some good deals. If you can get a parking pass, it's gold. Parking at the stadium runs $25-$30. And finally, for those who plan on getting together for a drink, check out the new Power & Light District. There are lots of cool places to hang out there and it's not far from where most of you will be staying. As a Kansas Citian, I'm happy to answer any questions about hotels, driving directions, or anything else that will make your trip to KC easier. Just ask!

Any 'bottleneck' areas that we should know about when driving to the PEPC from the airport?

Any traffic problem areas when driving to the Chiefs game on Sunday?

Do you know anyone who wants to sell a parking pass?

I am flying Air Tran. It is a great airline. Better than Delta in my opinion.

Ah good, it was either Air Tran for $200 or United for like... 400. and when I went to my ATSAT United canceled and rebooked every leg of my journey at least twice  good thing I was using a rewards ticket.

I've flown it from ATL to NYC and never had a problem with it. My fiance thinks the only airline that is better is British Airways... I think you will be pleasantly surprised by Air Tran.

She has flown a TON and believes that Air Tran is second best behind British Airways. I was hesitant to believe her until we flew Air Tran up to NYC and back. I have always flown Delta, but will fly Air Tran first if they offer a flight to where I am headed.

If you haven't been to ATL before, you will be amazed at the airport. It sure is not a small airport like those ones in NYC...

I've been to Atlanta a few times! It's my favorite city! I wanted to get hired there, but I'm kind of (okay, REALLY) glad I didn't. I can always move there some other time. I just love the place!

The only flights I can find for a reasonable price are on Northwest. I wanted to fly Southwest because they're my favorite, but it would be almost $200 more. There isn't a single non-stop flight available out of Boston or Providence, so I'll have to change planes somewhere. (Which always makes me nervous)

I've been looking at the Holiday Inn Aladdin in KC. It's a little further away than the Comfort Inn, but it looks like it might be worth it and it's still in walking distance to the PEPC as far as I can tell. The reviews are very good and the design of the inside and rooms is a very cool, modern style. I don't usually go the Priceline route because I like to know for sure what I'm getting, so I'm still shopping around. If anybody else is the same way, check out the Aladdin.

As far as clothing, I will be wearing a black suit and a tie. I don't think wearing a suit is "required", but I don't think it would be overdressed either.
If it appears unnecessary right off the bat, I can always take the jacket off.

There was a thread posted about this a while back for the mayots I think. I don't remember the exact location of it but what I gathered from it was most guys wore suits and some ended up carrying their jackets. The very least was suit pants and a nice shirt/tie. I don't remember what the women wore. I didn't make a mental note of that because I didn't plan on wearing a skirt.

im flyin northwest also. i wanted southwest, but the tickets were like $100 more for me. i am stayin at the comfort in though. its like .2 miles away. ill have a rental car, but this way i can walk it and not have to search for parking (or pay for parking if ya have to)

Yikes. I don't either. :yup:

I've flown on just about every airline. Airtran is one of the best. Northwest is the worst, IMO. Every time I fly with NW something goes wrong. Flights canceled, baggage lost, carseats lost, etc. Horrible.

When I use to travel for work every week I got so damn sick of ironing... just use the clothes line they have installed in the shower, turn on the hot water and shut the door for about 30 minutes... steams the wrinkles right out!

Now, what you don't want to do, which I have done ONLY ONCE... is to put your suit and shirt in there, then pass out on in bed watching a movie, then the next morning getting up to go pee and opening the bathroom door and steam flooding out and everything in the bathroom is SOAKED... I was in amazement that there was still any hot water after 8 or so hours of being on and that I didn't cause any flooding!

Im staying at the aladdin holiday inn. When you talk to reservations ask them for the "no change/no cancelation" rate. That will lower the price to $109. However you cant change it or cancel it, and if you don't show up they still charge you. However, I plan on being there the night i reserved, so no worrys. :D

Depending on your start time, the Broadway Bridge is always backed up during rush hour. This is the bridge that takes you from the "Northland" (where MCI is located) across the river into downtown. The positive side of waiting in traffic there is that you are able to check out what's going on at the Downtown Airport (MKC) while you wait, as 169 Hwy runs right along the E side of MKC. To be safe, add 10-15 minutes to your estimated drive time if your PEPC start time is at or before 9:00. Also plan a little extra time to find parking downtown if you will be driving. And make sure to have some cash on you. I don't know of many free places to park downtown.

The Chief's games will always create a lot of traffic on I-70 with everyone trying to get into the stadium about the same time. How to avoid this? Show up a couple hours before the game and tailgate! You will have lots of good company.

And I don't know anyone looking to get rid of tickets or parking passes for this game in particular.

This is the way that mapquest gave me...

Is there a 'better' way than taking South 71 (I-29, I-35) like MapQuest advised or should I take the Broadway Bridge like you suggested?

My PEPC starts at 8:00 AM and I was planning on leaving the hotel at 6:30. Would this be enough time to get from MCI to downtown on Locust Street? I am from Atlanta and very familiar with terrible traffic so I don't know if this is enough time or not. I am going to give it a 'practice run' the day before to get to know the area and stuff.

What does the parking usually run downtown? Five bucks? Ten bucks?

I am looking forward to going to the Chiefs game! If anyone wants to 'tag along' I will have 2-3 extra spots in my vehicle! I am currently bidding for a parking pass on Ebay right now...

I live in KC as well, work at the MKC, I would, without question, take the Broadway bridge. 169 south off of I-35. Five bucks, but parking is terrible. You are all better off parking down at MKC and having a cab meet you there to take you into downtown. If you people do a little coordinating, you can get three in a cab ride that will cost about 7 bucks
