Kalitta 727 FO

The bad part is, is that I want to apply.... SJS at work. I was just hoping it was more than 45 :)

SJS = Shiny Jurrasic Syndrome? What do you think would be an appropriate starting salary for a CFI who jumped to the right seat of a 72?

Really?! Your hoping for more than 45K/year?! I'm amazed. I think that 45K/year is an absolutely outstanding starting pay considering that you spend 187 days/year away from your family. If you want more pay...move to China. And if you think that a cargo 727 is shiny...you have never flown cargo, no disrespect to bandit. Look at what AAL or even Delta pay 1 year FOs then say 45 isn't enough. Hell, the last time I looked at FedEx the starting pay for a FO was around 33K, just looked, it's actually 45k/year as well. Some things still amaze me. Like individuals saying that you have to send them to a specific base or airframe just because the have more than the minimum hours required.

Be happy that you have a job. There may be a pilot shortage in a few years, but unless you want to collect unemployment until then, be happy that you have a job period.

Believe me, Im happy about having a job. Im just kind of shocked that flying big planes you can make so little. Its not just starting out pay. Their pay increases are less than inflation is. Which means that you actually take a paycut every year from your starting out pay if you take into account the current inflation rates this year (unlike AAL or Delta or Fedex).

IT seems to me that only CFI's will be applying for this job, not anyone with a decent amount of 727 experience.

Now this is just my opinion that pilots are paid to low in general. If you disagree then we will just have to agree to disagree.

There isn't anything shiny left on the 727's.

It is amazing you have quit flying already if you are in it just for the money.

The pay can always be better at any place you work. Kalitta isn't the best paying outline out there nor are they the worst. I bet you fly a lot more that 300-400 hours for that 45K as a CFI and put in a lot more hours out of the cockpit too.

Name another airline that buys commuting pilots hotels in base.

Very inexpensive and good health insurance.

And if you do your homeworkk you will find that:

Cappy FO's make less money for the first 5 years.
Amerijet FO's after 10 years are still paid less that a 1st year Kalitta FO
Evergreen pays FO's less on the 747
etc, etc

I recieved a call yesterday. Debating what to do. Of it was 9-10 months ago I would have for sure taken it

Yea current job with about two years or so til upgrade. I applied last year when I was looking at furlough from previous company

I didn't apply but I'm curious what competitive times are for the guys that got a response back? I was at a job fair about five years ago and chatted with the Kalitta rep, he was really friendly but said they wouldn't take anyone without 4000TT and 1000 jet for a 747 FO, how does this compare? I also have a friend that was hired at Amerijet into the 727 about 17 years ago, think he said he wasn't something like 3000TT... I just wonder how this one compares...

I am interested to see if anything has heard back yet. Would be a sweet job for sure. If I was at express or another company with a long upgrade I would have been all about it. I am just finished GS for Upgrade at C5 though, can't quit the PIC time.
