Well of course! Just because the aircraft is on fire and being evacuated doesn't mean you have to leave your laptop and underwear behind does it?Yes there were passengers who still stopped to grab their carry on luggage.

So in a case like this does the CA still get fired ?
It wouldn't be too hard to have some type of interlock device on the overhead bins that release at 10k or when the seat belt sign comes off. Probably too expensive to deploy and of course the airlines would fight it. Of the major evacuations we've seen lately, at least half the people stopped for their bags.Yes there were passengers who still stopped to grab their carry on luggage.
Which brings out one of my pet peeves, about 50% of the time when I'm cleared for takeoff, the plane in front of me isn't even appreciably close to rotation.
One controller at "a large airport" decided to bitch at me for not departing immediately, but I'm just not advancing the power before it seems that the previous guy is even close to V1.
Not worth it.
When I see this, I still am always reminded of the Fedex 647 crash at MEM, where the crew was taking the time to toss out bags and Christmas presents, instead of evacing the fire/smoke filled cabin.
Those items they bought their mistresses for Xmas weren't cheap, you know! 'Hey, hey Charlie get my damn cooler bag too!' 'Dave, get my jacket will ya?'
I couldn't believe that nonsense the first time I saw it.
What's the matter Taylor? These guys don't seem to mind.
Not if he brings a cake to the hearing.
Yeah, when you're trained, sure!
But who knows if the 747-400 in front of me is going to realize he's out of Yuban and abort?
You slow roll it onto runways?Yeah, when you're trained, sure!

Gotta admit that old-school SAC is cool though.......![]()

I bet an Airbus went rouge and hit it.

My guess is if you had a rear view mirror you'd be a little quicker on the throttle. There was a reason ATC was leaning on you.
