Jet On Fire at LAS

Funny how FA shows it in the air!

http://flightaware.com/live/flight/BAW2276

liveatc has it on tower archieves. 2310:55Z is when you want to start listening.

10:54 Cleared for takeoff
12:47 Stopping on the runway
13:03 Need the trucks
14:00 Evacuation.

Good job. Wonder what the reject was for? Maybe hottttt brakes...
Would you happen to have the Live ATC link? It won't pull up that specific archive for me.
Thanks!

I wonder about those feeds sometimes. I've heard some "uh oh" moments at SFO that could have attracted media attention only to find the archive "down" for that time period when I go back to grab it for myself though the files before/after the event work fine. A friend saved/uploaded the clip edited out the downtime:

FAA allegedly already told the media there was fire indication on engine #1 pre-V1 and the plane aborted accordingly. Damage seems to back that up.

Some dang fine CRM and checklisting by the crew to get that thing stopped and evacuated - safely - within minutes. This'll no doubt get blown way out of proportion...

And, as for my guess, one of those BA 747s sitting down the street in VCV will be activated shortly.

First indication of trouble that I hear is at 12:37, when the controller asks Skywest to hold position. First ARFF is cleared on to the runway at 14:17. 1:40 seconds, at most? I'm no expert, but that seems like a pretty damned good response time.

Which brings out one of my pet peeves, about 50% of the time when I'm cleared for takeoff, the plane in front of me isn't even appreciably close to rotation.

One controller at "a large airport" decided to bitch at me for not departing immediately, but I'm just not advancing the power before it seems that the previous guy is even close to V1.

Not worth it.

What's the matter Taylor? These guys don't seem to mind.

:D

. Must have been terrifying sitting on the left side of the aircraft.

What? If the Captain were true upper-lip British, he'd have made a calm PA announcement of "right, now if you'll have a look out the left side of the aircraft, you may notice a light spot of fire occurring. For that reason, we will have to deplane forthright and without delay. So, if you will please prepare to exit by row to the doors being opened by our Attendants at this time, we can proceed. Please leave all carryons and other personal items behind.Thank you again for flying British Airways."

And selfies. I want selfies.......

Man, this ain't no Mad Doggin' runway runaway in LGA! These folks were flying on BA! And if an upper-lipped British captain kindly asked me in that accent to leave my stuff behind, by golly my stuff stays on that aircraft and I'm on the slide with a smile on my face! Tea is in an hour.

I just picture a Jonathan Quayle Higgins type BA Captain there, making said announcements.
