Jeju Air 737-800 gear up landing slams into wall

Why the • would they build a wall at the end of the runway? Not a good week…

Notice how they are using reverse thrust...They probably didn't extend the landing gear after the bird strike.

Uhh? All runways have to end eventually. Why is MDW surrounded by a neighborhood 50 feet from DER. Why does SFO dump you into the water? Why does LGB have a sound deflector? Why does SEZ end in a cliff? Looking at a pic there is a hotel just past said mound of dirt. That wouldn’t have been any better…

You know what prevents running into equipment/terrain/buildings at the end of the runway? Touching down in the touchdown zone with the wheels up or down.

I have a feeling this will be another Korean airline culture caused crash.

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. They have neither ground spoilers nor flaps nor landing gear. A few of those you need to unlock and deploy the reversers.

The reversers are out because they got ripped backwards from an airplane sliding at high speed into the dirt.

Doesn't the Radar Altimeter if less than 10 feet show the plane on the ground? Or is that just on the MAX?

Explain to me like I'm an idiot that has never flown a commercial airliner - how would a bird strike on approach technically prevent the gear from extending?

Don’t remember a wall near the runway. Perimeter fence, sure. Was starting construction my first tour there, and was almost complete with everything non-runway/ramp by my second tour there. there’s an overrun, a fair amount of open space, opposite direction approach lighting and localizer antenna, much like any other airport.

Not when originally built. Don’t think it’s been retrofitted either. It’s a 9000’ runway, so not exactly short and necessarily needing one. And has a short grass overrun past the paved overrun, but it he approach lighting system is right there too insofar as the departure end of 19
