Maximillian_Jenius said:Hey Pengy...those screens in the cockpit shot looked like CRT's they putting LCD's in the new version?
Also is that an all new wing design? Or a tweaked version of the old/current one?

jergar999 said:My understanding is that they are reworking some portions of the wing, and incorporating winglets.
If the website numbers are accurate, this should be interesting competition for the large jet market. Does anyone have any guesses on the launch customer?
Timbuff10 said:So for the next 20 years or so they will be selling the 777, 787, and this new version of the 747.
I guess the 737 is still selling well for them but I wonder if they are ever going to attempt anything smaller than the 737?
TrinidadGT20 said:Well, it's about flippin time they launched it. I got tired of the "we hope to launch it soon" hype.
I wouldn't expect to see a new 737 for at least another 7 years.
mike295855 said:hopefully BA,UA, and others will get into the ordering scene.
mike295855 said:Boeing must consider redesigning the wings because currently those winglets and the extension they made on the wing on the 747-400 aren't good enough to meet the expectations they are planning to introduce.
mike295855 said:Trust me, the wings you see in the design will more than likely be extremely similiar to the outcome.
tonyw said:Why do you say this, Mike? Do you have some insight into the design of the wings? I'm not saying this to be a smart ass, I'm asking a question that I'd love to hear the answer to.
Not sure I'd go along with that, either. Remember, we were promised the shark fin tail on the 787 right up until the final release.
tonyw said:Mike, they're going to use the GENx engines, which are much more efficient engines.
As for quoting airliners.net as a source, um.........don't.
And the queen of the skies is flying now, and will continue to fly for a long, long, long time. I believe BA's got some 747-400s that are like, two years old. Count on those flying for another 30 years at a minimum.
mike295855 said:I really am basing my answers on what I have read at airliners.net and others websites.
