Instructor Layoffs

Also, having a 1/2 hour IP meeting on how to input grades into AMS by yourself would save a ton over paper over a years time, not to mention how it would free up a certain someone's time that spends a good portion of a day inputting grades. That took about 3 minutes of thought.

We've tried that. Apparently for some reason the FAA doesn't want it done that way. Don't ask me why, I don't know. I was told by NR that we could lose our 141 certification. I guess is has something to do with security and controlling grades. I used to put my remarks in the computer myself. It saves so much time and is easy to backspace and rewrite. I don't think they want us doing that anymore either.

We used to be able to check aircraft inspection times on the computers in the wx room. Due to software licensing issues, we can't have MS Access on all computers. Therefore, Dispatch has to print the inspection time sheet every flight. That's more wasted paper.

Are we seriously sitting here splitting hairs over whether what's ailing FSA is printer paper? I believe (and know) there's more than some damned paper going AWOL here...

Ps. It's not just FSA...or the printer paper. The economy sucks. It's probably more macro

Well, we have to have something to toss back and forth. This thread has seen more action than any other FSA thread in recent weeks.:pop:

Pffft yeah I saw this coming a mile away.. no paper.. lights off.. 7 instructors gone...paying for the laundry facility and internet when it was included in your ridiculously high on-campus rent. I'm glad I got out when I did. I really feel bad for the new non-contract students that have to pay that much and are getting very little services that FS promised. NEW STUDENTS BE AWARE OF SLICK MARKETING.

Cheers:beer:

I worked in the marketing department there. Flight Safety does not use slick marketing or promise anything they won't deliver.

They are just cutting costs. They haven't turned off the sims yet have they? :)

What FSA needs to do is go get the Chinese contract back from Pan-AM. Their pass rate is still hovering around 25-30%. I heard China Southern is pissed...

Perhaps they should strap the fake wing back on the top of a golf cart for taxiing lessons...I would have loved to have seen that. Supposedly something just didn't click.

All I can say is..... Thank god for the Swiss, RWL, and PTN contracts we currently have. Without those contracts... FSA would be out of buiseness.

the proposed bill for 1500tt/ATP for minimum hiring requirements isn't going to help things :(

CrockRocket, how low are things on the non-contract side at FSA?

IS FSA only operational Mon - Fri? Sat and Sun are days off? Wed +6pm?

As for the 1500TT ATP requirement, it'll take time to implement, and there will of course be a grandfather clause to accomodate those already riding shotgun. The way things are going, if/when the next hiring wave arrives there'll be CFIs with 5-figure logbooks applying...so it would appear to be a non-issue.

Timing and luck really are important in this profession...one year the prereqs are a pulse, and the next year no hiring at all. Flying is still the best job in the world...but the very worst career.

Anybody have the name of that truck driving school?...I think I might need it.

I actually wouldn't know because I work at FSI up in Toledo, not down in Vero.

I was just repeating something someone told me who lives down and works at FSA.

This rule won't change the usage of the 145. It's never used anyways.

They should let the instructors jump in it every once in a while to get some advanced systems training like they did before DG cut it off. I got in the last class over a year ago and it was informative and fun.

in AATP it was around 500 to the customer, so i'm sure MUCH MUCH less..

that being said, one PFD cost $140,000 according to the sim techs when one went out on us in the middle of a lesson.
