ID badge no longer gets you through security?

AT my home airport, I do need boarding pass to get thourgh security, even I wear my uniform. I asked the TSA reasoning - "your airline does not fly in and out of this airport."

At DTW, I need a gate pass to going to NWA terminal. In this case, I usually get those "SSSS".(lazy ticket counter) I assume most people know what that mean.

:banghead:

Where can I find this document... I would love to carry a copy around with me.... I had to learn the TSA in my home airport about not needing a boarding pass....

I also would like a copy of this... where can this document be found?

Being a security sensitive document I don't think we're allowed to make a copy and carry around. The way to see it would be to get friendly with a station manager and ask to see their copy of the airport's AOSSP binder. You'd find the exemption letter in the amendments. There is a thread or two on apc that talks about the specifcs of it and the date. If you do a search you might find more specific info than what I can remember.

How about the absurd notion, that a crew member can fly an airplane into EWR, but if he wants to turn around and deadhead home on it, technically, due to his change in position etc, he must "exit" the secure area to be re screened, before boarding...wtf?!?

I was under the impression you only had to go through security if the DH was the first leg of the day before operating a flight.

Makes me glad they finally re-opened the turnstiles in MEM with the SIDA badge scanners....

TSA has their power trips. They believe since they work for the government and wear a uniform with "Homeland Security" on it that the buck stops with them. They give me trouble sometimes and I'm with airport management. It depends on who I encounter, but I once had a medical emergency on the concourse and they said the EMT's and I couldn't pass. Because it was an emergency, we went out a SIDA door and came in on the concourse. When I was exiting the concourse I made sure to wave at the TSA employee and smile. However, that only happened once.

I commute out of DFW and have never had any problems there. When I am riding on mainline I will show them my boarding pass along with my crew ID. But sometimes I have to go to a different terminal and I just show them my crew ID and its all good. Even had them open up an extra lane just for me! Don't get me wrong TSA blows, but the guys at DFW don't seem to have a power trip.

:yeahthat:

DFW is great. They'll pull you to the front of the line if you're in uniform. I usually refuse this offer of generosity from them though.

You need a security document when in DAL unless your airline operates out of there. The TSA there are a really nice bunch of folks though!
