This is true, however, I have met more than one employee of a company described in such a way where the pilot was proud of themselves for doing such a "dangerous" job.

Which is honorable in war time, not carrying bananas to the islands. There are no 21 guns and bagpipes for freight dawgs flying clapped out metros. It can be done safely. But if you willingly fly in unsafe conditions then you kinda get whats coming to you...
