I hate updating logbook

Ugh. Took a look at mine recently. Been filing it out in my spare time now for the last two weeks, usually two hours at a time, every day. Going through old flight logs to keep track is a PITA!
 
I was obsessed with the idea of keeping a 'paper logbook' for the longest time because I had read that a particular foreign airline that I wanted to work for wanted to see a paper logbook. Once that door closed for me, I switched over to an electronic logbook. It was a complete PITA going back and entering thousands of flights and the times from my old ASA book, my printouts from the 1900, my 'red' logbooks, and my logbook pages from 'the Jet.' But, now that I am done, I have an excellent snapshot of anything that I have done. (Also, in the end, typing into a database is much easier then handwriting - even though it is tedious) And, now it only takes me less than 2 min at the completion of a flight to type the numbers on my iPhone. It would be even less, but I like to say something memorable in the remarks section each time something happens. If it is driving you nuts, make the switch to something electronic.
 
Funny, I have an electronic. I have kept the maintenance logs updated for each flight, just bringing it over to the logbook is fun with all the paper and looking at calendar for where I went...
 
I keep both and update the electronic one daily, but the paper one only a few times a year. My hand is just now un-cramping from the last update on Wednesday that took up my whole afternoon.
 
Yup- I switched to an electronic logbook, and I have no problem taking a minute post flight to enter the times on the tablet or phone.
I'll put something in the comments when I'm sitting back at home.

You know you can print an electronic logbook thus making it a paper logbook. :p
 
I use electronic. I import a PDF from our billing system into an excel file, clean it up, and import into my electronic logbook. Takes about 10 minutes to import about 2 months of flights.
 
I need to update mine... Usually a 6 pack, red box, and some boiled peanuts help pass the time better. My old roommate accidentally spilled a handle of whiskey on my log book a while back... It still smells like it. I wonder how that will go over in an interview... Time to go digital!
 
I spent about 2 weeks transferring my logbook into Excel.

I went from the most recent flight back in time. It was actually a very interesting walk down memory lane. I also found my original CFI that gave me my first flight lesson on Facebook. It was neat to reconnect to the past.
 
I personally don't get more than 1 month behind if I can help it with my logbook. Let my electronic version get 1.5 years behind on accident.

Fair enough, I just wondered exactly what you meant. Because there is no way I'm carrying around my paper log, once I'm living in a location that I can leave it locked safely at home.
 
It was awful entering thousands of hours of flight time when I made the switch from paper to electronic. But, it was the best move I ever made. My logbook is on my phone and then I sync it to the computer when I get a chance. My logbook is always current and it's super easy to extract specific details for any criteria you're interested in finding.
