How long were you at the regionals and where did you go from there?

Most all of the "professionals" that I know who are admitted to practice various things in California are here, and are staying. This might be the result of my living in the bubble that is the People's Republic of Kalifornia, though.

That must be why I constantly read articles in the Times about Joe Somebody in SoCal who has been on unemployment for X ridiculous amount of months despite his crazy credentials that qualify him for high paying jobs all over the country. The articles usually paint it as a sad story about how hard it is to find a job in today's economy, but I'm usually just thinking "move, you dumbass!"

Nah, dude.

There's a reason the left coast is more senior where I work than flyover country. And there's a reason that the seniority in Seattle and Portland are stratospheric. Life's better here.

And there's a reason the left coast is for new hires and new upgrades where I work. The original group before we opened it came to our airline for our midwest bases, which are now senior. Everyone's idea of the perfect place to live is different.

I might wind up in Minneapolis before too long. I'll try it. From everything I've heard I'll like it, too.

Oh, speaking of - I have two overnights there this month.

I kid, I kid....kinda.

Having lived several years on both coasts and in the Midwest, I know where I prefer to live. It works for me but I don't fault others for living where they choose. I may not understand or agree with the reasons, but it's their choice.
 
Really? I think we were all greedy ani.

What the hell.

Guess I'm in the minority, but I didn't get into this job to top out at some low to medium figure. Much less to actually work for said figure.

Additionally, I don't run my consulting business out of the kindness of my heart. Time is money, and our time as professionals should be valued appropriately.

Plus, I can be a pretty material kind of individual - so I'll chalk that up for my greed.

I'll never understand those who consciously say "Oh no, no thanks Sir, I'm happy with what you pay me. Don't dare pay me more."

True. And our contract does allow for the company to cover moving expenses when displaced from a base. That said we don't get things like what my older brother has been able to negotiate like having his company buy his house from him or at least make sure he doesn't take a loss.

Commuting is a choice, but it's a tough one. Especially at the regional level you can't expect everyone to continue renting our entire careers or take a bath every couple years when our bases close and we have to sell.
