How Does This Plan Sound? (Aviation Future)

Now i know, im getting over my head about getting this far ahead in this junk, but it's just a rough sketch of how i might want this to happen and such, but since im just throwing the idea around, i'd thought i'd get some ideas.

16 - Solo
17 - PPL

Graduate 08 HS with PPL at 17 and maybe working towards instrument.

Go to 4 year college and do ATP's 10 month self paced program, and become MEI as freshman/sophomore in college.

Instruct throughout college for about 2 years. Graduate college at 21 and start sending resumes out. Regionals, freight, private - whatever.

Then fly professionally while paying back some loans. Hopefully wont have too much to pay if my investing keeps going well.

Okay, end of fantasizing. I know industry changes alot and anything can happen. But, with a projected style of the industry now, some opinions?

A dream that i've had: By 25 flying for a major of some sort.

/End fantasizing/dreaming/rant.

Sound similar to what I want to do. My plan is to get my Privates, then Instrument, and then a CFI rating and instruct in college while getting add on ratings and a degree. I am guessing you are 15, like me, so I cant say If your plan sounds good or bad like mine.

Private. Singular. Or else people are going to quote you and go "hyuk hyuk hyuk I got mine a long time ago"...

As for Bigey, your plan sounds okay if you feel like rushing through everything, but remember that a lot of the stuff that you'll reminisce about occurs in the journey, rather than the end result. Major pilot at the age of 25? Then what? Just sit on the seniority list for 35 years? Thirty-five years... Think about how long that is. And while I don't know exactly how it works, it looks like pay doesn't go up at all after you've topped out the scale. So I'd figure you'd be looking at no raise for 10+ years, except contractual bump-ups...

If you rush through it, you're likely to not appreciate it so much and lose focus of why you got into flying in the first place. Once you get to the instructor stage, you'll realize that ultimately, it's a job. A fun job, but still a job. So be sure to try and have a lot of fun before it's too late.

Just my $0.02.

He probably "gets his privates" every morning in the shower.

hahahahaha.

Bigey- You'll get all the ladies in high school if you get your PPL. It's a good call. Where is the sarcasm tag?

I plan on doing some similar stuff but not quite.

I'll be graduating (hopefully) this May and will be pursuing my PPL over the summer. If there is time maybe I'll even get my instrument rating. If not, I'll do it on my freshmen fall semester. Then I'm gonna build up my hours and get my commercial multi summer of '07. Maybe I'll get my CFI as well but if not I'll get it in the fall of my soph year. So then for the next two years I can flight instruct and build my hours in a way that will only benefit others and myself. Hopefully, as I am pursuing my career, I will hopefully help others do so as well.

Then when I graduate college I should have enough hours to go to a respected regional or perhaps freight/charter.

No, more like-

Random hot girl you've never talked to in your entire life: So I heard you have a pilots license......take me flying!!
Me: Got $100?

Before you call me gay, I did take a bunch of babes flying once. It wasn't worth it- ditzy HS girls are the last people you want to be stuck in a flying box with...they wouldn't shut up about the dumbest things.

It got down right scary when one of them started doing things like putting her hand on the mixture and asking "what happens if I pull this red thing?" even after the one thing I really emphesized before we took off was that you do not touch the red thing!!

Good plan to have. I commend you for at least having a plan, and having a good idea of "what comes next". Getting my PPL when I was in HS, along with working, was hard to do, but I did it. Actually got the license the day before I left for ERAU, so I cut it close. But throughout my aviation journey thus far (PPL to CFII), I wish I had more insight on the process, could've saved a lot of headaches.

Chris had a good comment though. Enjoy the journey! If you get too caught up in whats next, you may never enjoy the present. In the end, keep that drive and focus, but allow yourself to get to the ultimate goal (whatever that might be, majors, corporate, military) with the realization that it won't happen exactly as planned (that is a guarantee). Doesn't mean it won't happen, just not as planned, and some look at that as a setback sometimes, I know I did.

Just gotta roll with the punches. Some will be a slap in the face, others might be a kick in the nuts! You're well ahead of others, so keep that drive.

PM anytime if you have more questions!

^^^Totally agree. All jokes aside about getting the PPL in high school, it really is a great advantage to get that out of the way while coursework is easy. Try to get a good job in high school too, I worked all through high school at two jobs and saved up an enormous amount of money. I still don't know how I did it, but remember even when you're young hard work pays off...Most important though, enjoy some of the best years of your life. Don't get to a major at 25 and then look back and regret what you've missed.

should've let her pull it and found out for herself. bet she wouldn't have touched anythign else the whole flight.

lets see for me, it was
solo at 16, ppl at 17, instrument at 19, COM/CFI at 21 (next month or so), then instruct on the side while the AF teaches me to fly the jets...
its a good deal

I got my PPL in high school. Probably, more important than that as far as my early aviation education goes, was I got a job pumping gas at the local airport at 16.

Same here, pretty much. The contacts I met through working at the FBO fueling etc., are a big reason I have the position I have today.

Sounds like a good plan Sherv. But I'd caution you to be flexible as your planning for your future in today's industry. When you graduate HS,college or even next year it (the industry) could be radically different. So yes keep planning for your future aviation career but don't have a make it or break it age deadline.

Good plan Shervin its pritty cool how I aided you in that plan.. heres mine.

A. UND-spring 2007 COMM-ME-IFR, summer intern, if not, go hoem take some classes get CFI's at ATP, intern in the fall (less competitive) Graduate here fall 2008 (20 yrs old) or spring 2009. CFI here full time if hired till I reach minimums, if not CFI for ATP. end result 21/22 yr old with UND degree in Aviation managment, 500 or more total hours.

B. ATP this summer, CFI for them for fall full time, take CRJ course cupon reaching 600 TT, then apply to reigonals at 19. OR ATP this summer, and go to a community college CFI part time.

UND- more growth and experience for me, and slower paced as well as more opportnities here.

ATP- quick, early CHANCE of getting hired by reigonal, no college degree, will persue online IF hired.

Cost- almost the same, because UNd tuition is low.

I'd like to do something like that, instruct my senior year at NKU but I know alot changes in 4 years so we'll see...

This is probably a dumb question, but do you have to have your commercial before you get your CFI? is it PPL, Insturment, multi-engine then commercial?

EDIT: Ay Chris, how do u like UND? I was looking into transferring there after my soph. year at NKU.

yehp Commercial allows you to fly for compensation. to be a CFI is an emplyment position, hence compensation, so you need a Commercial to have your CFI's, and im sure its under part 61 regs in the FAR's somewhere. Its pritty cool on our CFI's who are in eAA when they fly those young eagles, the can log dual given, even if they are not employed or compensated. Multi engine can be obtained with a Private lisence, not necrssarily waithing through ccommercial.

here's what I did so far...

solo 16
private 18 (took a break in the middle b/c of $$)
instrument 18
commercial 19
Multi/Comm 19

Insturment on has mostly been done while full time in college, but I have now decided to go only part time to have some type of life...well, mostly so I can CFI more during the whole year. I wont graduate until fall of 2010, but by then I should have a competitve resume, and Im in no rush to be a jet jockey. I want to enjoy instructing and be the best instructor I can be! (Don't get me wrong...my ultimate goal is to be an airline pilot)
BTW, just got "hired" at my flight school, they are now doing my background checks. I should be working as soon as I pass my ride:nana2:

Now i am sitting here studying for my CFI ride that will hopefully happen March 21st...seriously can't wait for the end of that day.
