How Does This Plan Sound? (Aviation Future)

ATP this summer, CFI for them for fall full time, take CRJ course cupon reaching 600 TT, then apply to reigonals at 19. OR ATP this summer, and go to a community college CFI part time.

Too bad you have to be at least 21 years old for most regionals...

One thing I might add to the above is in regard to getting your PPL and then straight into instrument training. I got my private in Oct and then only flew once a month of so until I started my instument work in Jan. Although I feel prepared enough to be working on the rating I believe I would have benefitted for an additional 20-30 hours of flying, preferably cross country, to gain a better working grasp on the basics. I believe there was a thread about this a while ago, where the general consenus was more cross country time going into instrument training was a great help, due to the problem solving skills it builds in a relatively young pilot.
For me personally, this is how the timing worked out. But I will still need to build the 50 hours of XC before I can take the checkride for instrument. Additionally, as I plan on getting my commercial as a next step, I will need 250 hours total, so even 40-50 hours later on my instrument wouldn't really slow the process down at all, just put "time building" at a different stage.

i hope you have a runway near your school. its kinda tough doing 15 hours, flying, and trying to be drunk anytime other than when you're flying and the 8 hours before.

with that said, im a frosh in college now, and im at 7.3 hours. I wish i would have done it in high school, because i didnt do anything productive other than SAT and get into college my last 2 years of that joke.

stay motivated and get-r-done.

has anyone instructed while being a full time student?

methinks its time to go study for my privates

I'm instructing (at work close to 40 hours a week) while taking 17 credit hours. 3 days of class, 4 days of work. That means no sleeping in and no partying late because if you don't get to bed late you NEVER make it up sleepwise.

Good plan Shervin its pritty cool how I aided you in that plan.. heres mine.

A. UND-spring 2007 COMM-ME-IFR, summer intern, if not, go hoem take some classes get CFI's at ATP, intern in the fall (less competitive) Graduate here fall 2008 (20 yrs old) or spring 2009. CFI here full time if hired till I reach minimums, if not CFI for ATP. end result 21/22 yr old with UND degree in Aviation managment, 500 or more total hours.

B. ATP this summer, CFI for them for fall full time, take CRJ course cupon reaching 600 TT, then apply to reigonals at 19. OR ATP this summer, and go to a community college CFI part time.

UND- more growth and experience for me, and slower paced as well as more opportnities here.

ATP- quick, early CHANCE of getting hired by reigonal, no college degree, will persue online IF hired.

Cost- almost the same, because UNd tuition is low.

Chris...your a dork (no joke) Your already in college and you would drop out of school...to work at a regional for $20-25k??? Also why would you go to ATP when I have heard great things about UND's aviation program including cost? Last I checked ATP is $45-54k not including certain fee's for checkrides etc. UND is what $45k total with a degree I *think*. Don't be dumb..commercial aviation isn't going anywhere!

:whatever:

My only advice to you is ENJOY COLLEGE....it will be the time of your based upon where you go! Do not try and grow up to fast!

Agreed! If he wants to rush and be a F/O @ regional X I wouldn't want to fly with him!!!

SLOW DOWN...HYPER KID!

I'd like to do something like that, instruct my senior year at NKU but I know alot changes in 4 years so we'll see...

This is probably a dumb question, but do you have to have your commercial before you get your CFI? is it PPL, Insturment, multi-engine then commercial?

EDIT: Ay Chris, how do u like UND? I was looking into transferring there after my soph. year at NKU.

I have heard good things about UND Aviation. But it's cold up there brah and you know black people don't do well in the cold brah man! NKU sucks and is along drive from Middletown!

I read a GIV Training Manual, way ahead of myself. I try to be a kid without being a Jet jock pilot ego •. Just live life as it is,teen years are the best, now I dont take them for granted.

haha i couldnt tell ya if 7500 is right

i know it is some rediculous number.

if you account for speeding it up to 16x time on the hong kong? to san fran cargo route.... itd probably be alot more.

7.3 real time though.

n57flyguy "ident"...

it all makes sense now!

Since we're all sharing plans and goals here's mine:

1. Survive this hell that is an engineering degree and graduate from college.
2. Hopefully get hired without having to pursue a Masters Degree.
3. Make money, get married if I meet someone worthy.
4. Buy my own plane and fly on weekends for fun.

I'm not throwing out the possibility of flying for a career, but I'm sure not going to take out a giant loan for it and let this engineering degree go to waster.
