How Does This Plan Sound? (Aviation Future)

Ford is right about his town but he shouldn't be dissing jakes on monday, brothers on tuesday, scotty's on wednesday, and the cactus on thursday...damn I miss the old college bars..........

Back to topic...The better choice, IMO, at Purdue (for the high schoolers chiming in) is to get a degree in something else (refer to thread about degrees) and do your training at the FBO, Lafayette Aviation. I hate them because their cheif CFI is an idiot, however, I was trained by Great Purdue flight school CFI's and took my checkrides with the DPE's from the flight school. Not to mention having the resources of these CFI's and DPE's for questions and conversations as well. All this ended up being much less than CF paid (no offense chris) with an additional aeronautical engineering degree.

Granted it's not an aviation degree, but it has been concluded that the aviation degree is not always the best path. Just another option.....

Haven't been to the cactus yet (I've only had 2 Thursdays of being 21, but my understanding is that it's a good time, haven't been to Scotty's, but I'd trade both of them for Purdue's bar scene to be 25% as good as Mill Avenue in Tempe, AZ.)

Or just don't go to Purdue at all. Jischke has turned the university into a business first and education experience second. Higher tuition, more TAs teaching classes so professors can do research, demanding money from alumni, it's ridiculous. There's no reason to go to Purdue from out of state. No offense taken at the price, but I agree, Lafayette Aviation isn't the greatest to go now (hiring the wrong types of people, IMO), but I'm curious to hear your opinions on the chief who shall remain nameless.

Here is my plan:

Private by age 18

Instrument by college

CFI during college while majoring in business

(A.)after the business degree (4 yrs) fly corporate for a while to save money for law school and hopefully become a corporate attorney.

(B.) Continue as a Corporate Pilot and work my way up to becoming a VP of Flight Operations.

Ultimently after college is a blur. I can't decide what to do then, but we'll see!

I have GREAT Corporate Aviation contacts! I WILL take advantage of that.
And before anybody asks, NO AIRLINE FOR ME (unless it involves a management position or cheif pilot or something)!

sounds like what I want to do, with a few changes. I have GREAT contacts to, and Im only 15, not to brag, but Im excited about them, just cool to see that as in my case.

Who knows? Maybe there will be other ways to fly in the not so distant future that we might take part in.

I have heard good things about UND Aviation. But it's cold up there brah and you know black people don't do well in the cold brah man! NKU sucks and is along drive from Middletown!

Yeah man, thats what I'm worried about, the cold and the lack of decent women up there haha! But NKU is pretty nice, they got new dorms and I got a full tuition scholarship to go there so its all good, but I still gotta visit UC so I'm keepin my options open.

I'm in the same boat as you high school fellas (I am 16, a junior in HS), and have some goals of my own. Its also very cool to see everyone's else's goals and career apsirations. As for mine. . .

-PPL at 17 (around May) and IR over the summer.

-Work on comm through winter senior year and get it around 18th birthday, while adding the CFI/CFII/ME add-ons through freshman year of college.

-CFI sophomore through senior years of college, building TT and Multi-time

-After college, get a job hopefully with Airnet or Ameriflight. Build the multi PIC here while gaining great experience

-After building the multi PIC, I would like to get hired with a local Fortune 500 Company, or get hired with a local company named CorporateAir, building jet time in Hawkers and Gulfstreams

-Ultimately be hired by the local Fortune 500 company, or any Fortune 500 Corporate Department. I am in no way ruling out the passengers airlines or freight airlines.

The only thing I am undecided about is college. I have looked at Purdue, UND, etc., but have to decide soon whether to continue with my training here or do it at a flight school in college. I would like to major in Aero Engineering should anything "happen" later while flying.

Planning is all nice and dandy, but it will go down the toilet with the flip of a hat. Here was my plan when I was younger (age 16).

-Get a job
-Save up for flight training
-PPL before college
-College, do the other ratings things
-Go work for an airline.

When in reality it was more like this:
-Get a job
-Save up $1500 really quick and start to think that the dream is happening
-Get girlfriend
-Bank account is stagnant at $1000 for a year and a half
-Break up with girlfriend
-Get back to $1500
-New girlfriend, bank down to $1000 (repeat this and the last 2 steps one more time)
-Go to Purdue because it's "one of the best aviation programs"
-Move to Indiana having never seen the place (this obviously is my own fault :) )
-Get all my pilot-y ratings and flight instructor-ma-bobs
-Get a job
-Start to realize that working makes flying a chore
-Wish I had gone somewhere else and reminisce about the old days :)

Wannabepilot, just curious, are you or your parents paying? Because if you are paying for the training, be aware that it requires a huge amount of money upfront and working from paycheck to paycheck may slow your training progress. On the other hand, if your parents are paying, then take advantage of it, and take them to a nice place they'd like. Also, from what I hear, don't count of too much ME time from instructing, although you can certainly get some. Finally, remember to stop/slow down, and smell the roses. It's a fun time, enjoy it!

That's why I raised my standards this year and decided to only date rich girls who's parents are thrilled at the idea of their daughter flying in a small plane and possibly staying overnight, a hundred miles away, because the weather suddenly came out of nowhere and I'm not IR. I think you can guess how many girlfriends I've had this year!

So moral of the story is, don't get yourself caught out there with a girlfriend. From experience, they are the single most expensive item in the history of mankind.

Also, where do you find girlfriends with such low maintenance? $500 will buy you a year of something-something. Amazing. You'd be lucky to last two weeks here with $500. :)

You know what? Forget my plan. I have a better one:

-Go to Gulfstream and get all my top-quality non-CFI training for a small chunk of change, and get hired by one of the safest and most prestigious air carriers out there, Gulfstream International Airlines.

See, it worked for them. Why wouldn't it work for me?

Not only that, but the program costs only $27,684 after $2,000 of in flight pay.

Remember, I was working at the time. So all my income + $500 of savings went to the toilet :)

You pay them to be a F/O on a beech 1900. Something that is legally required to have that crewmember, but they sell it to people...

PFJ at it's best
