How do you like Skywest?!

Doubt Southwest will go that route. I think a large part of their business model is that they only operate one type of aircraft, and only have to buy parts for one type of aircraft.

That's where Skywest comes in (hopefully)

This is a sticky one. For years they denied even considering another a/c type. Then last year this rumour started again. Instead of squashing it, Jim Parker actually CONFIRMED that they were looking into RJs. He said something about always keeping options open in the changing marketplace.

I think it had more to do with FA negotiations than anything else. Those were turning NASTY on both sides.

A friend of mine just got command on the CRJ. He was in no particular hurry to upgrade, and just wanted to enjoy - not so many legs , more enjoyable ride, flying to new destinations. If he did not get the command on the jet in 2004, he was going to EMB-120 to get command. Do not race to the finish line enjoy the journey a bit.

I don't think theres a damn thing you can do to avoid those dreaded 8 leg days on the last day of your four day trip. However I was looking at lines in the RJ and saw that they mostly consisted of 5 leggers.

Heh. Did the capt and FO light up a fat blunt after they blocked out?

I am so jealous of all you Skywest employees, sounds like a great airline with many exciting possibilities. Keep the posts coming with your experiences.

I think the longest flight at SkyWest SFO-AUS blocked at 4:20!

4:20 to AUS????? In what, an EMB120? It is 1304 nm/300Kts groundspeed. Coast to Coast is only 4.5!! I don't even want to know what the Westbound leg took.

I would like to propose legislation prohibiting ERJ/CRJ flights in excess of 2 hours. I have done 2.5+ in ERJs many times, and it is terrible.

NJA Capt
An retired AA pilot flies an "X" in Vegas who lives here. Vegas to Boston granted they had the jet stream in favor was just around 1.5! talk about

I think he exaggerated just a wee bit. LAS-BOS is 2063 nm.
That would mean a groundspeed of 1375 kts! I have never heard of a 850 kt jetstream.

A no wind flight from LAS to BOS would be 3.9.
The best I have seen is a 715 kt GS.
The world record coast to coast (held by a C750) is SAN to CHS in 2.9

PS:
In my original response, I didn't mean to compare the CX to the Skywest flight to AUS. I was implying that at "airliner" speeds (approx 480 Kt GS) the flight should be around 2:45.
If you want to compare the CX, it would be less <2:30.

That's easy, don't buy the ticket.

But, I can guarantee that I will never by a ticket for a 4 hour RJ flight.

I can definately endorse that idea for an ERJ, however in my experience a CRJ is a much more comfortable, QUIETER animal.

Over Christmas break my schedule had me flying about 7 different flights to get where I was going and hands down the CRJ was the most enjoyable ride, not counting the free business class upgrade I got just for bheing so dang tall.

Speaking of that trip, I did notice that on those trips I was never once on an American made aircraft. Kinda sad to think about, but I know that there are some rabid darwinist free-market people on the boards that will disagree with me.

Sorry to interrupt guys, but I am going back to the name of the thread.

SkyWest just released the standing bid awards for a bunch of upgrades and the most junior CRJ 200/700 Captain now was hired 2 years ago to the day!
They still don't pay while in training..but it is pretty cool to go from $19/hour to $60 in 2 years and of course PIC time is priceless.

BTW they are talking about increasing 700's pay in the new agreement (up to 12%). Will see what happens.
