How bad do the airlines scrutinize over your driving record?

I know, I know--it's a white trash car. It was my "first". I bought it when I was 16, it was an '84. I didn't realize that I seemed like a purple Escort kind of gal

! I used to have more than one white trash car!!... I took my drivers ed driving test in a seville cadillac and a suburban (yup, had to take it twice), had my own red camaro during college.. and who knows how many other cars! dad liked to work on them, buy em cheap, fix em up and let us kids drive them...

here's white trash:

red Monte Carlo, with a yellow hood.

paid $175 drove it through 1 Minnesota winter and sold it for $200 in the spring.
 
My first car was an '87 Firebird that already had 125,000 miles on it when my dad sold it to me. It had been through 8 NY winters and had the rust to prove it. I took it to DAB for two years and the salt air certainly didn't help the rust problem. The transmission was questionable, the brakes were shot, and the roof leaked whenever it rained. When I bought my present car (a '98 Saturn, bought new) I tried to trade it in ... the dealer actually laughed at me! Then I tried to take it to a junkyard ... they refused it too! I finally sold it to some 17-year-old kid at a service station who wanted it for parts ... got $100 cash. Now that was a whiskey-tango machine if I ever saw one.

Both of those attitudes are completely without regard to anyone but yourself. It is this selfish attitude that spurs on road rage and encourages others to act selfishly on the interstate. Taking this "holier than thou" approach to life, speaking in terms of "those law breakers" and "I have every right to be here in the left lane" are simply selfish responses that are equal to the offensive behaviour of the guy behind you with the lights flashing. Who hired you to police the highways? I'll bet your the guy in that Cessna over there who parks in the middle of taxi/hold short area blocking access to to the runway while you do your runup. Are you the pilot flies the pattern in ways completely oblivious to those around you, making radio calls when they are convenient?

Courtesy please, the world is only getting more crowded.

Oh, and I can't resist on this one: Do I need my degree to get hired by a major?

Thats the kind of attitude that causes car wrecks. We have people here that think because they are going exactly the speed limit they can get in the left lane with their big trucks or vans and block it off. This kind of stuff is gonna get someone killed because someone in the left lane is always gonna end up goin like 80 and blabbin on the phone and not see things til its too late. The left lane is for passing only not for crusin along. I like to just hang out in the far right lane going with the flow of traffic unless someone in front is goin really slow then I pass. Other than that I like the far right lane, you draw a lot less attention that way especially at night.

[/ QUOTE ] Huh, why does everyone call it the "fast lane" then? Seems like the left is for those who want to go 75, the middle is usually about 70, and the right is for the 65 speed limit. That's what I always thought any way.
 
"Keep right except to pass" works everywhere I've been.

And if you've spent any time on the Autostrada or Autobahn or anywhere that people really know how to drive fast, you'll know to keep a close eye on the road ahead and on your mirrors and pay attention to what's going on in both directions.

I think its the fast lane because usually the people in there are goin so darned fast that they can never get back into the middle without needing to get right back out to pass someone. Thats why I like to stay away from it unless I need to pass someone goin slow. People in that lane are goin way too fast usually and the right lane for the slowbies attracts the least attention

Driving 5% below the speed limit is not inconsiderate. Going 15-20 mph below, yes, that's not a good idea, but it isn't the least bit inconsiderate to go 67 in a 70 AS LONG AS YOU STAY IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE! Equating this to cutting people off on the radio in a traffic pattern is quite a leap, my friend. In fact, 65 is the night speed limit on most highways in this state, if you can't get by doing 67 in a 70 or 62 in a 65, then the speed limit should be raised or the cops should do a better job of inforcing the speed limit. Sure, if the flow of traffic demands for safety reasons that you must speed, then I guess you have to do it. But when conditions allow, there's nothing incosiderate with driving 5% below the speed limit. This 5% buffer gives a margin allowing you to accelerate around a road hazaard or pass an even slower driver without violating the law.

What if I'm going 67, but I come up on an 18 wheeler doing 65. Am I going to want to spend 60--90 seconds in the fast lane next to this monster? If that 18 wheeler has a blowout, me or one of my passengers could be decapitated by the flying tire treads. Going 3 mph below the speed limit allows me to accelerate up to 70, cut the time I spend next to the 18 wheeler in half, and avoid breaking the law. If I was going 70 and I tried to pass an 18 wheeler doing 67-68, I'd have to spend a minute or so next to him to get around or break the law and start speeding. Not safe either way.

Does it enrage you that same people actually like to obey the law? I disdain breaking the law, and would never willingly do it unless forced to by circumstances beyond my control. Are you going to drive 90 in a 70 just because everyone else is? Are you too cool to wear your seatbelt? Is doing a pre-flight inspection on an airplane "only for nervous, wussy pilots"?

Yeah, I'm exaggerating....but no more than you calling me "discourteous" for driving 5 mph below the speed limit. Courtesy is important....be a courteous citizen and obey the law whenever possible.
 
I say drive the post speed limit of take the surface streets. The 'Expressway' was meant to be just that. I hate geting behind some bone head who by not going the posted limit becomes an obstruction to the orderly flow of traffic. It is the person plodding along who forces others to make lane changes. Keep up or take the next exit.

The Left lane is the 'Hammer" lane. No 'brake riders', 'slow pokes' or 'mom and pop RV operators' need apply.

I don't know what part of NV you are talking about but from the CA/NV boarder to Vegas on I-15 I always do 125 - 135 with a group of atleast 3 other vehicles (who I don't travel with). I've seen the NHP pass us a couple of times. Imagine how fast they were going.

And the kicker, I still get a little over 600 mpg per tank of gas.

Well I'm talking about the Wendover-Reno stretch, but my dad has travelled most of NV and it's usually the same thing about every where. I don't know that'd I'd be bragging about doing 125-135 dude. You have a death wish? That's past the realm of "fun, daring, exciting, thrilling" and into the world of "just plain stupid".Or BS, one of the two.
