Yup sure have. Lived in "the real oc" Costa Mesa. Commuted to LA for work.

Not bragging about going that fast but I have had both CHP and NHP pass me while I was going that fast. But like I said before, I was in a group of other vehicles of people I did not know.
 
Idiots who drive slow in the left lane and block traffic for miles behind them should have their licence revoked or be shot, take your pick!

If people are behind you trying to pass, PAY ATTENTION TO WHATS GOING ON AROUND YOU, GET OFF THE DAMN PHONE, QUIT YAKKING, AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY YOU JACKASS!!!!!!!

and don't even get me started on all you idiots that don't know how a 4-way stop/ right of way works, I have no freakin idea how some of these people ever got a drivers licence.

Cops need to forget about speeders and start giving out IDIOT tickets!

TheWife, it is that mentality that screws the entire system up. Get in the fast lane, pass, and then get out. The guy behind you might want to go faster, so let him. If someone takes the position that I am going fast and this is the fast lane therefore I don't have to move, they are only being selfish. That never ceases to amaze me around here.

Also, with regards to saying that going 125mph is plain stupid: have you ever been that fast? How would you know? Is it stupid because someone told you it was? There are many cars perfectly capable of driving that fast and it isn't even challenging the car's engine. I have always contested that speed is realtive to the controler of the velocity. If you can handle it, that doesn't make it unsafe. Now, when you put other people at risk I would argue to slow down. But this idea that what ever you can do is the same standard of how other people should act. In this industry that would mean that all those jets should SLOW DOWN. I can't go that fast in my prop plane, they must be crazy!

There's a lot of places here that have the two-lane four way stops. Man, talk about potential accidents. Everytime I go through there some moron who never even stopped his car thinks it's "his" turn.
 
In my hometown there's two really confusing 5-way intersections. All of us locals who grew up and learned to drive there know perfectly how the intersections work, who goes when, who has right-of-way etc. The tourists and out-of-towners have NO clue how these intersecions operate, and I feel really bad for some of them, because they'll get totally thrown by the fact that there's 5 streets that meet up, not just 4.
 
That's nothing, Amber ... in Rochester where I grew up there's an intersection called "Twelve Corners" ... which is exactly what it is. It's an extremely busy intersection with people going in all directions and it always messes up people who aren't used to it!
 
maybe they should post a sign before the light (or stop sign) that explains how the intersection works (like around where the no turn on red signs are?) something like that might help the out of towners.

the problem with ann arbor is that we have a million fourways and a bunch of 3 ways, and a ton of pedestrians who could care less who's turn it is to go. it's one thing if there's a stoplight (sometimes that works) its another if its just a stopsign or a blinking red. (yes I am one of those • pedestrians, and one of those • drivers who doesn't let the pedestrian have the right of way. hehe. I hate me!)

I have never seen the left lane as a "passing only" lane because most people get in the left lane and stay there until they exit, usually driving with the flow of left lane traffic. I didn't say anything about MY personal driving habits!

[/ QUOTE ] It's stupid because the regular roads are NOT made for that kind of speed, it wouldn't take much to lose control of your vehicle and you would NOT survive an accident at that rate! The fastest I have personally been is 110 on a drag strip MADE for that. On regular roads all is takes is a jack rabbit crossing the road and you can get in a major fatal accident. That I speak from my experience in the insurance world as well as hearing from a nurse who sees ER accidents at speeds around 80-90 that are often fatal. You also can't account for the other drivers on the road. And it is also stupid because you may pass 10 NHP who don't pull you over but only takes one who decides he should pull you over. You can get a recklass driving ticket for going 20 over in most areas, I can only IMAGINE what they would do to you for that speed. I'd bet you could get your license revoked. Why is it worth that?

Any time you are caught going over 100 mph in most states, you are arrested for reckless endangerment, and go to jail, and the car/motorcycle can be impounded depending on the cop. I have been with people this has happened to twice now. Licence suspension depends on the states rules/ points system.

If your gonna go over 100, which most of us have, c'mon now don't lie - just don't get caught!

I suppose what you should do is dictated by the conditions. In North Dakota here, the roads are very empty, so its easy to stay to the right and pass on the left. In New Jersey though, where i used to drive because my parents live there, if you stay in the right lane you'll be constantly weaving between the right and the middle lane. Things like following distance go out the window in New Jersey too, because if you leave a following space with the car ahead of you it just means an opening for the bloke in the middle lane to get into.

In Germany i was on the autobahn a couple times, and there the drivers have much more discipline about staying to the right. People there flash their lights too if you are going way to slow in the left lane, so you are expected to be aware and get out of their way.
 
2-3 under the limit can be dangerous in some spots, as another poster mentioned. For example, try hitting I-15 southbound from Temecula just north of San Diego going 68 in the 70 zone. You will be a hazard, without a doubt. People are easily doing 80-90+, and it's necessary to keep up. This is an example of actually breaking the law (California Basic Speed Law) by driving at the posted limit.

I've seen what happens to riders that hit stationary objects (like cars that pull out in front of them) doing 60 mph. Kind of curious what it'd look like at 150+. How about leaving a note for your parents to send me a copy of the police pictures. I'm sure they won't mind.

Have you ever driven out west? Things are different out here. It's quite normal like the above poster said to get into packs traveling well over the posted limit. However, these roads have some of the lowest fatality rates in the entire system. 2/3rds of the fatal accidents are single vechical, and most of those are caused by either falling asleep or being intoxicated. I'm looking for the numbers, but I'd bet that driving on the interstate system is safer, per mile, then flying in a light airplane.
 
I AM out West. I don't care how "safe" it seems--not only is complete disregard for the law, it's dangerous to you and those around you, and since there isn't a test you can take to prove that you are capable of handling speeds that high, then I'm sure most guys think they CAN handle it, whether they really can or not.
 
Yeah, but you see Doug, that wasn't her fault. The light saw her coming and purposely changed before she had the time to hit the gas.
