headsets for the CRJ

i own a pair of bose right now, but I'm looking at getting something that doesn't have the big cups on the ears. Like a telex or something. What do some of you guys recommend?

Cheechako was big on the Bose QC2 + UflyMike combo; your ALPA org committee bro Dave B. also swears by this setup.

I just use the el-cheapo Telex 750s. I was gonna use my DCs, but they were too big to fit in my flight bag with all the other junk in there. Once I can afford them, I'll probably move up to the Telex 850s for the ANR.

I've got the Sennheiser HMEC-45KA and I really like them. In fact, I just picked up a second pair that I got a good deal on and might be willing to unload 'em if someone is interested in a pair. They are ANR, and 2 AA batteries last about 80 hours or so.

I'm in the middle of recurrent so I don't have time right now to find links to the headset, but maybe later today I'll post some.

I was wondering if Bose X is good for Jets!
What are the disadvantages of using it?

If you wanna just buy a headset and be done with it get a telex 850. Its lightweight, tried-and-true, ANR, and has no batteries. Even though the RJ is indeed a jet the ANR makes a big difference on a long flight- especially if you are going faster than .74M. just my opinion but why pay a couple hundred now for a basic one now, than a few hundred more later for a good one. Just do it right the first time.:nana2:

Sennheiser HMEC-45KA

Sweet.

I have the HMEC-25's, they're a little bigger but they have a little more passive ANR than the 45's.

Probably a great headset, but MAN does that hot mic drive me nuts when guys don't shut it off. For some reason the people that wear them love to leave the hot mic on, I'm not sure if they can hear the background noise but I definitely can with my Sennheisers.

Do any of the guys wear the big DC 13.4 cans?

Sure, lots of guys do. Some guys bring their own with them and others just use what the company supplies. We supply 3 sets of DC's in each airplane.

If I had the Bose I would keep using them. The CRJ has loud avionics and it gets loud when you start speeding up. The avionics and recirc fans in the 700 are even louder than the 200 and scheduled cruise in that airplane is usually .77 or .80 so I'm sure the Bose would work just great. If you're unhappy with your headset-hair you could always just buzz your noggin. :)

He's a captain now, he can afford more gel. Oops, I forgot, gel isn't cool in the OC. He can afford more pomade.

I think it's because most of the guys who have the 850s are JJs and for what ever reason (maybe a 737 driver here can explain it) they always hot mic'd in the 73. It is annoying as heck though.

See, Mrivc, if you were concentrating on hitting that 1000 PIC you could be bidding a plane that's quiet enough not to require such intense ANC. But Noooo! Wanted to go chase the ladies as a jet captain! Got tired of explaining what a Brasilia is and all! :)

"Yeah, I know a guy over there, he's a captain on the Brasilia"

"What's his name"

"(name)"

*smile* "He's so dreamy! hee hee!"

newbie moment. . . "are JJs"?

JJs stand for?

Sorry. JJs arr J4Js or "Jets For Jobs" guys. We got nice shiny jets from Mainline with the condition that 50% of the seats belonged to furloughed mainline guys. Some are nice, some aren't so nice, but the good news is most of them are getting recalled and going home.
