headsets for the CRJ

Bose Quiet Comfort 2 with the UFlyMike adapter.
There is no substitute! It might mess with the 'do a tad, but totally worth it! What's more, you can pop off the adapter, plug in the iPod and you're good to go on those three-hour deadheads between ORD and YYC. . .

Believe me, I've tried a half-dozen headsets in the CRJ and this is the best. Do a Cheechako search for "headsets" and you'll find the evolution!

No disadvantages, I would just like wear something that doesn't make my hair look like I just got outta bed for once.
Oh yeah, totally feeling you there brother. Definitely skip the industry-leading hearing protection and opt for something more "do-friendly". Hey, when you're looking into those lightweights, maybe you can custom order a pair in hot-pink, or whatever shade you and your SoCal sisters favor this year! ;)
Seriously Omar, I'm not sure if you're actually flying the jet yet, but you should know it's really not that much quieter than the Brasilia when you factor in wind noise, avionics fans, etc. I've never used the Bose in the jet, but everyone I know who does maintains that nothing beats it. I'm not quite ready to drop a grand on a pair, but maybe you should focus on preserving your hearing for the next 30-35 years and just wear the hat. (Though, I'm married, and balding so my hair style is roughly as important to me as Paris Hilton's shoe-size...) Rant over.

I have the HMEC-25's, they're a little bigger but they have a little more passive ANR than the 45's.

Probably a great headset, but MAN does that hot mic drive me nuts when guys don't shut it off. For some reason the people that wear them love to leave the hot mic on, I'm not sure if they can hear the background noise but I definitely can with my Sennheisers.

Sure, lots of guys do. Some guys bring their own with them and others just use what the company supplies. We supply 3 sets of DC's in each airplane.

If I had the Bose I would keep using them. The CRJ has loud avionics and it gets loud when you start speeding up. The avionics and recirc fans in the 700 are even louder than the 200 and scheduled cruise in that airplane is usually .77 or .80 so I'm sure the Bose would work just great. If you're unhappy with your headset-hair you could always just buzz your noggin. :)

Dang. $850 is a little more than I wanted to spend. I was hoping to sell my bose on ebay. I'm estimating about $700 for them, and use that to buy the new pair. Anyone ever heard of a headset that molds into your ear, I've heard the southwest guys use them a lot.

See, Mrivc, if you were concentrating on hitting that 1000 PIC you could be bidding a plane that's quiet enough not to require such intense ANC. But Noooo! Wanted to go chase the ladies as a jet captain! Got tired of explaining what a Brasilia is and all! :)

Why do I feel like I"m getting smacked in the ass with a wet towel in the boys locker room? LOL

Hey man, I paid my dues and flew the bro for two and a half years. I'll have the PIC after being online for a month. Plus I"m just curious to see what its like to get yelled at by ATC for stopping in ORD. LOL. NOTTT!

I'm liking this idea. Liking it veeeeerryyy much. Mainly for the IPOD thing.

Hey Omar did you check out the headset I posted? It is has an aux input for an iPod too. Super comfy and the ear plugs mold into your ears so there is no need for a battery box for noise reduction. If I have my headset on when we are at the gate, I can hear a damn thing anyone is saying in the cockpit. :)

Hey omar, just keep the bose. It's super quiet and a lot of people wear it. Your hair's gonna look bad either way.

Clarity Aloft. Its da bomb!

No batteries, no headcups, no headaches, its quiet, etc. :)

Thats pretty cool. Does the noise just come thru the foam? Or is there a hole in the center of the foam? Do you ever get tired of having something in your ear all the time? This is more of what I was looking for. And at half a G, I get back about 2 bills.

Check with this guy. He handles factory refurbished Sennheisers, and is currently advertising the HMEC-25 at $415.25. He shows out of stock on the website. Worth a call anyway, because he will usually have a price even lower than he shows on the site if you call him. I've had good experiences dealing with him.

God now I know what you guys are bitching about in the RJ. I sat in the very last seat against the window last night coming home from SLC. I sat next to a guy who was 6'2" and probably weighed 220. My neck hurt, my back was sore, and I felt closterphobic when we finally landed. I had my turbine all bunched up to use as a pillow.

Yep, there are small holes in the ear pieces which you replace on about a monthly basis. (or sooner if you don't clean your ears! :) )

I never notice the plugs in my ears. You squeeze them together before you put them in your ears, then pop'em in. They then expand comfortably to create a seal and presto - no noise! I can fly an up 8 hour block day (not that I care to) and have zero pain or issues at the end of the day from the headset.

I use the one listed below with a custom molded earpiece (about 35 bucks from a hearing aid guy) in the lear 45 and it seems to work good. I don't use the head band, the ear piece has a place to clip the little box onto it. But after a long day of flying it does start to bug me a bit.

However I have been thinking of switching to the MS200 from PLantronics or the Mach One from LightSpeed. They both seem comfy but, the Mach one is about twice the price. Has any one used either of these?
