Great Job Delta!

That isn't the issue. It's the you cancel the party you are being contracted for or we pull our funding. That's the problem. Pull your funding for next year because the economy is shaky, but when you start dictating who they can do business with, when those terms were not in their sponsorship agreement, then that is a problem. If they cancelled the party, they would have kept their sponsorship. Delta, like all large corporations has a responsibility to all the communities with which they serve. It's called Corporate Responsibility, and you see their logo everywhere in Atlanta.

Let me ask you this. Are you saying Delta isn't being responsible to the local community of Atlanta, Georgia?

Avgirl; I think it's strange we both starting posting at the same time, there's already such a large disparity in the post count, and only one of us wants to be a career pilot.
I pretty much kill threads and I think that's because you have to build a reputation on JC and I don't really have one yet. I encourage you to look at the one you're building. I've lurked here a long time, and I've had a lot of one sided arguments with Seggy, but I always read his posts and consider his arguments. I think he's made a pretty convincing one here.

That's your opinion, totally entitled to it.

Look at the link to the article I posted, please. That might be useful. Delta is acting like a spoiled brat, not quite the bully and again, you are bringing up an entirely different issue. Can we stay on topic, it's pretty easy. One party, they lose their sponsorship even with no further events from Qatar. One event with JLo? A bit extreme. If Qatar was to become a sponsor you might actually have a point, but that is not the case.
Oh I looked at it. The writer doesn't care enough about their work that they won't even post their name. This is an issue that goes much deeper than one party. This is one fight of many that are currently going on to protect good paying jobs in our country. Why don't you support NAI or have you not dug deep enough into that one? You and I are arguing last each other on this. I do not live in Atlanta and I'm sorry to see the Fox Theatre lose its sponsorship funding. Maybe the board should reevaluate the events that take place at their location.

That opinion is a new thread. This one is simply about the gate. It's sweet of you to be sorry about the loss of funding, but those quotes were from the AJC. Politics doesn't belong with sponsorships, especially in this case.

I don't see any other missed posts, so I think there is nothing more to talk about with this issue. Thanks for having a productive conversation. :)

Do you work for the Fox Theatre?

That is absolutely fine if that was the actual topic in the first post of this thread. Unless you live in Atlanta, of course you won't care about the local economy. Yes, your concerns are there worldwide, but my concerns because they are more immediate lie entirely with my own economy and the bullying that not only has happened In this thread, but in my city by an airline that is strong arming businesses it supports as long as they dictate how they can run them.

Start a different thread for the ALPA issues and economic threats, and show how to be a good representative of a profession and field I absolutely respect and adore, just not everyone who chooses to make a poor example of it and tarnish the reputations of those that really epitomize what being a pilot really is.
Umm, you do realize this thread is posted in the the "Airline Pilots" section, right? You might be concerned about the local economy (which, btw, I think will be just fine, as well as the Fox Theatre) but everyone else here is concerned about the entire U.S. airline industry. Don't be surprised that they are giving their opinions about a legitimate threat to their "Airline Pilot" career.

Sorry, was just doing nonprofit board stuff, it's late and I used the wrong buzzword. Community Partnerships.
I lived in Atlanta for over 20 years and still have a house outside Atlanta. So I do care about Atlanta, @mastermags lives downtown and is very active in the community.

Community Partnerships go both ways. It was/is nice that Delta was sponsoring the Fox Theater, it is an important part of Atlanta history. If the Fox Theater is going to take Delta's money than they have to realize that when they are doing business with somebody by proxy Delta is doing business with that person. Now would Delta ever do business with Qatar? I don't think so. Better yet would Delta ever do business with Akbar Al Baker? Hell no. The Fox had to know this.

My mom spent most of her working years working for nonprofits in Atlanta. Can I ask you what nonprofit you sit on the board for? You can PM me.

Let me ask you this... Say you personally supported and frequented a place but that place rented their venue out for a KKK rally. Would you continue to go to that place?

EEEeeeeeeeeeeNOPE!

The Fox Theater forgot the first lesson of "Glengarry Glen Ross": ABC…Always Be Closing.

You get the Qatar deal in the short term, you lose the Delta deal in the long term. Close the deal on the 1 Bed/1.5 Bath condo and lose the deal on the whole building, or sell the whole building but lose the deal on the condo? :)

ALWAYS BE CLOSING.

The conduct of the airport and Delta will be taken up “very seriously” by the Qatar government, he said.

I misread that at first and had a chuckle at the idea of a foreign government trying to do anything to a US citizen.

It’s ironic that he’s mentioning “old and frail people” having to walk up “very large steps to get to the terminal” as a violation of the air-services agreement. At his airline’s hub, Doha’s Hamad International Airport, plenty of planes have to board and deplane at remote stands using stairs. What about the “old and frail” people there, Your Excellency?

Loss of translation or not, what an arrogant little •. I'd love for him to call my grandmother "old and frail." 93 years old and she'd beat his ass in.
To expand upon the idea of handicapped access without jetbridges, it sucks coordinating wheelchairs/crutches/electric wheelchairs/mobile units/buses/whatever. Why do I say this? Because 10 wheelchair-assists go in at the origin, and 0 come out at the destination.

However, owning 49% of Virgin Atlantic, that might be seen as… anti-competitive. :)

It's all chess, baby!

Don't forget the jet fuel. Screw hedging, buy the plant.

This entire thread as a dispatcher has me like....

I'm pretty far from Atlanta in a number of ways, so I was curious about the Fox Theater. While browsing through articles about the Delta Sponsor Ship (Air Lines) I found the following;

http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...for-a-boycott-of-qatar-airways-300230724.html

Apart from the threat to American carriers, how about just the way the company operates in general? What's to defend here? I hope their jets never see a gate.

OH speaking of sponsors - from last year's debacle with Nicole Kidman (She's not married to Tom Cruise anymore!?)...

http://www.jpost.com/Middle-East/Ni...-UAE-airline-Etihad-over-rights-abuses-396468

"The United Arab Emirates and their airlines are well-known in our industry for their discriminatory labor practices and deplorable treatment of female employees," Glading wrote."

The APFA also attacked the UAE's rights record in the letter. "Sadly, Etihad’s abhorrent labor policies are hardly surprising when one considers the fact that the airline is wholly owned by the UAE, a country where the only thing that is being 'stepped up' for women and girls is the level of abuse."

I actually DO remember this, since Etihad and Alitalia were going all in together with EXPO 2015, like, a month later.
