Good bye Jet U

$70K in debt in hopes of landing a $20K/yr job all for nine months of training! Hmm... guess that old adage of gaining REAL EXPERIENCE for an extended period of time, getting your hands dirty, building character to EARN that seat has gone out the window... I'm all about old school. That video gets me every time! The media deems it, "Impressive." HA HA HA! <object width="425" height="344">

This heres a story about billy joe and bobbie sue
Two young pilots, regional delegates for Jet U,
GOOO TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN!.... LOL anyone want to elaborate futher.. I think this has potential!

Aside from paying the tuition up front, this sounds like the kind of slimeball crap going on at Air Safety in Phoenix. How is it that so many flight academies have the same type of scummy CEO at the helm?

I must say I feel sorry for the students affected by the closure. If someone is good at lying, they can persuade even a smart individual to do something relatively risky with their money. Look at the whole Bernie Madoff situation. I remember when I was trying to find a flight academy, and how little I knew about the whole business. It was difficult for me to discern the good from the bad, and while I made it through my training in good financial order I cannot attribute it to my own sound judgment. My former academy (the aforementioned Air Safety) is now in dire financial circumstances, and the only thing that separated me from getting cheated was about 2 years of time. In the same way, I imagine some of these Jet U students believed they were making a responsible decision to attend the school. To have their dreams snuffed out in such dramatic fashion is nothing but heartbreaking. Some of them had to have been as naive as I was when I started my training, and for those individuals I am saddened and enraged.

But I digress... While I'm disheartened to see innocent students suffer, I'm glad to see another illegitimate academy go bankrupt. No need to have lying, cheating dirtbags making promises they can't keep. A crappy school generally produces crappy pilots, which lowers the standard of professionalism in the industry.

Bottom line: Good riddance.

$70K in debt in hopes of landing a $20K/yr job all for nine months of training! Hmm...

Who would give a 70K loan to become a pilot in this economy? Oh wait that's why we have this economy.... Poor students will have their credit shot for a very long time. Unless dad was paying:eek:

I just watched the video and I kept hearing the word "dream".

We've all got dreams, but it seems the issue when it came to discussing programs like this is the 'dream' superseding 'reason'. Perhaps with the same stroke that someone would get involved with a program after all of the deleterious information about it, was the same stroke that drove them to think that sinking $70K for a fast track program in a terrible economy was a good job.

If it was 1990, ok. Shame on Jet U. But it's 2009 and Google... Hello! The blame is shared.

I can't help but feel especially bad for the foreign students - those with fewer resources with which to discern that this is a scam. I think we need to be careful not to blame the victims here ... when a business tells you that they will provide a service at a certain price, I don't think it's that far into left field to expect them to provide it. If ATP folded tomorrow, how many good people on here would lose their shirt?

BTW - I'm about to become a puppy mill product myself. Gonna take ATP up on their 4 hours of dual in a G1000 DA40 for $495.

That one guy said "Just a few months ago, I had never flown a plane before, Now I'll be a commercial airline pilot in a couple of months" or something to that effect. Without having this turn into an "experience" thread, that just sounds kind of spooky to me.

Weenie!

The sad thing is that whenever one of these schools shuts down, another more expensive one is right behind trying to open up its doors.

I got warned for posting that...see mod comment on the first page. Be careful

Wrong, you got warned for starting a thread that had no substance other than the inflaming site. This thread has developed quite a bit more than one where one post is made where the only possible outcome is a <>storm.

That wasn't me.... still have us confused? I was the comment on the first page of this thread.

That one guy in the video was still worried about borrowing more money, He said there's not a bank in the world that will loan me more money after I have 82,000 in debt. He should be more worried about the predicament that he is in now instead of trying to borrowing more money.

Jesus, no kidding.

I don't know the whole story behind Jet U, but how is that different than ATP? Do they get a pass because they pay for ad space?

Your going way out on a limb there mojo. Couple of big differences between ATP and JetU...

  • ATP has been around for over 25+ years.
  • Like it or not... ATP has a system that works.
  • ATP actually has a full fleet of aircraft.
  • ATP's cost is not $70,000... it's only $54,995 from 0-time, and it actually includes your CFI certs. Only $44,995 if you already have your private... oh yeah, and lot's of multi for that price.
  • Comparing the price of ATP with other "major" flight schools... it's actually the cheapest. http://www.fltops.com/flightschools.asp
  • ATP does not require payment in full up front. It's a graduated payment system that includes most of your flight time (XC phase) by the time you have paid the full amount.
  • If you are approved for a loan... they don't take the full amount of the loan up front. They apply for disbursements at the same rate that anyone paying cash would be paying.
  • ATP is VA/141 approved.
  • ATP doesn't "Guarantee" a job.
There's more differences... but that's a big start.

'retard falling for it'......

This 'retard' did.

Left 50K/year job cause the cubes will kill you; got my 'retard' degree in computer science.

Got the 50K job cause I am a retard......

Borrowed 50K tuition, 50K living expenses (this retard had stellar credit and a 400/month mortgage payment--forgo the 1300/mo mortgage, keep the cheap one and work on 3rd career....yep, retard me!) 'guaranteed program' 400 hours, all my ratings with cfi, cfii and guaranteed interview.

Airline Training Academy, O-town Fla.

Year later, I had my private's finished instrument ground and was scheduled to go up to 10,000 ft with some Greek chainsmoking CFII in a 172 using only rudder---I was psyched....

ATA did what JetU just did.....tits up.

But...me and some 'retards' fought like hell....kind of like the 'retards' at JetUSucks are doing now.....

This 'retard' is now a cfi, cfii, mei, agi, igi, 'eieio' with 950 hours , a 99% pass rating, the (mutual) respect of some stellar 'retards' I have had the privilege of teaching how to fly.

That 1 year 'guaranteed program' has turned into a 5? 6? year disaster...

and you know what?

This 'retard' was doing some freelance computer programming last week, getting bored because--as all pilots know--computer programming is for 'retards'...this 'retard' said, '**#()#, this, I am a (retard) pilot.'

Now, let's flip this around.......

That 'retard' in the video clip doing the promo for JetU is/was an honest man, who thinks that people should do right by one another.....I 'was' that kid.

I commented to a chief pilot who I truly respect that, "aviation attracts the best and the worst" ...

These 'retards' RIGHTFULY expect the best .....

And, you know what?

I agree with them.

But then,,.....

I am a retard.

...

b.

We fought, lost.--I finagled funds for ATP and got my ratings....

That 100K is now .25 Million in debt and I can't pay it back short of making the millions that some 'retards' have made who's King Airs , 340A's and 310's I have flown...
