Glider License?

I've never care for your comments and never will. But I guess that is you reputation around here. All I was saying was the difference between airplanes and gliders.

I guess you can't see that I was joking around when I made this comment and over and over I said that I was joking around, but you guys don't give up.

Then why don't you put me on your ignore list?

I'm not sure there's as much smoke as you'd think, Steve.

When a pilot who has "UND" in their screen name, referring to the University of North Dakota, gets on here and says "rudders are only useful in a spin" people are going to correct them as quickly as possible. It makes the university look bad, it makes all the instructors who teach/taught there look bad, it makes the training program at UND look bad, it makes pilots in general look bad and it makes you wonder how long it's going to take for this guy to kill himself in a stall/spin accident.

You might look at this as, "glider pilots are better than fixed wing pilots...NO THEY'RE NOT, YOU'RE A POOPY FACE!" I look at it as a realistic response to a completely asinine statement that is at best wrong and at worst dangerous.

What's wrong with correcting incorrect statements?
Train - this is the same guy who said this:

Airplanes are a marvelous creature, remember humans weren't really meant to fly and when we do fly we become different people. I am guilty of doing things I shouldn't be doing because I like test my flying skills.

But on a positive note I got 800 posts now!!!

Add to that he's only 20 and correction might be futile. I do hope he quiets down and learns, though.

I've been here long enough to see that you like to come into heated arguments and throw your useless comments around. No one will look at UND the wrong way, you just bring this stuff up to make people think more about it. Plus I guess you don't read all my comments because I don't know how many times I have to tell you that numerous times I was kidding around.

Why do you care how old I am. Do I make fun of your age? I like how you only insert one of my comments. Why don't you insert all of my comments to show my thought process.

Not much.

But my comment(s) really didn't have anything to do with that, did they?

Let me speak plainly to all of the kiddies here - stop behaving like children. This is not about who's right and who's wrong, it's about treating people with respect. I see a lot of that NOT HAPPENING on both side of this little discussion. I really don't much care what the disagreement is about, I just want you *dudes* to quit spilling the bean dip on Doug's carpet.

Really. It's that simple.

Has the OP died of absolute boredom yet?
I'm with the "Glider and Rudder Gang".

Cheerio!

:hiya:

man, feeling bad for the OP, now that you mention it. poor kid opened a can of worms without even the slightest intention.

so to comment on your original question, Jeremy: glider flying will, without a doubt, make a better pilot out of you. it will also help you move through a powered private license much quicker, in my opinion. the one thing it comes down to, as you might find later in life, is money. if money is not an issue, go for it. if it is, save it up for the powered stuff. the costs of flying are rising every year and you'll need every cent if money is tight.

and if you can take anything from all this arguing on your thread (some i am responsible for, sorry), please take this: listen with an open mind to those who have more experience than you. heck, listen to everyone in aviation with an open mind! i've even learned things from my students when back when i was teaching. you can always make up your own mind in the end, but some little piece of information or a story you hear might just save your life one day. and lastly, best of luck to you! :D

You need to get your facts right, writing down false claims that aren't even true. I don't know how many times I told you people that I was joking around, but you old people don't know when to give up and you all kept on pushing it further than it was necessary. You also that you would stop talking and I was willing to forget all of this. I'm sorry that this got blown out of proportion, but I'm not sorry for defending myself.

No need to feel bad, is it? Goes on to show that you have to be careful when selecting your instructor, so you don't end up a frie short of a happy meal. Some in our profession believe this:

How I teach my students is my business and when they pass the checkride that means I did my job right.
...

... which scares me to death!

Passed checkrides say nothing about the quality of the respective instructor and moreover, how/ what they teach is not only their business.
No wonder people need a tailwheel endorsement.

Gliders are well known for instilling judgement and energy management skills in pilots and in many airplanes a yaw string would be a very good investment, as they tend to show the shortfalls our rather crooked system has produced.
I'll take Kristies word and cut the rope here. Have fun flying gliders!

are you done yet? maybe if you stop talking, everyone else will stop talking too?

I try, but then someone comes along and writes something that totally blows everything everything out of proportion, just like the guy does below you.

Why does everyone takes my words so seriously and blow it out of proportion? Have you seen the way I teach my students? Do you see that I train my students to higher standards than what the PTS requires? You can teach "Almost" everything in a regular old airplane. You don't have to fly gliders in order to get the same experience you would flying airplanes.

(thanks Kevin!)

You understand "stick" and "yoke" are interchangeable, and when people say "stick and rudder skills" they are referring to your ability to hand fly an airplane, right?

Further, if your understanding of coordinated flight is limited to thinking that you only need rudder in a spin, then you need to get some more education on the issue.

Just wanted to check Jtrain - did you guys use rudder at Xjet?

I'm getting pounded by other people for blowing my comments way out of proportion and they can't accept it. They say that they are done talking with me, but they just keep on talking.

I don't know how many times I have to tell you that numerous times I was kidding around.

You are the only one blowing things out of proportion by constantly posting the same thing like a bully is picking on you, if you stopped talking in this argument, don't you think the fuel would run out? "I was just joking" Telling someone that their rating is not important and in no way will help them in their career(which is false) is no joke! This is a serious forum, that is why you have the lavatory and the :sarcasm: button. The OP is on here to basically ask if a certain rating will help him and you are saying no, yet you have never stepped foot in a glider! I guess I should start spreading the word that flying a C-172 is easy yet I don't have my PPL yet...

It's common sense, can you honestly believe that you can fly an airplane without rudders? Almost everyone that has a beef with me has some sort of flying experience, so that they should know that my statement wasn't true. The reason for blowing everything out of proportion was that I admitted that it was a joke back on page one, but you have the nerve to continue this debate.

Been wondering this throughout some of the thread - you wouldn't happen to be from France would you? Just curious.

SFCC...

Man are you incorrect. But on top of incorrect you're throwing arrogance in the face of people who have exponentially more experience than you. This whole thing could have been avoided if you just admitted you were wrong about the rudders.

I'll tell you what, I'll give you 150 FREE hours in a Piper Cub or a Mooney if you can make it startup to shut down in a 172 without touching the rudders.

The worst thing about this board is that there are a group of posters who will dogpile another user for expressing a dissenting opinion. This was not the case here. You've been dogpiled for being wrong and taking pride in it.

The BEST thing about this board is the diversity of experience. No one here wants to be condescending, we want to help other aviators out. Please drop the attitude and that will be good enough. If not, you'd better hope you don't end up in front of a hiring board with some of these guys on it.

And yes, flying glider is much more difficult than a 310, Seneca, Apache, or Seminole on a single engine.

Read my comments, I said over 15 times that I said that it was a joke. I don't know how many times people have been pushing this topic way to far.
