Yes the bus has multiple ways to secure the door, pilots being in charge of these systems.

Ahhh, actually you are the one having a knee jerk reaction here when you say 'mark my words'.

If we are replaced by pilotless aircraft, there is even less skin in the game. One can be murderous and take down hundreds of people.

Jonny Jihad likely has had his ass kicked by 100 passengers and is barely breathing as soon as he pulls a knife.

That's what we'd like to believe. With a coordinated attack I think your odds of defending the plane aren't as good as you think. 6 Male attackers in a fast coordinated method grab a FA, crowd the isle and barricade with carts the front of the aircraft. 5 are blocking in the isle and holding the carts with improvised weapons....Not as easy to get control back as you think.

By the time pax realize what's occurring, coordinate a counter-response the bad guys are already in a very defendable position.
 
I thought that the issue might be socio-economic. Working for the state most of our in-patient admissions are poor individuals on welfare. But my friend works at a private care (read $$$ psychiatric facility for rich (white) people). And he says that what I see is even worse at his place. Lot's of entitlement related admissions. Mommy and daddy don't love me, so I'll show you. I'll force you to see me and acknowledge me. Via negative/dangerous behavior patterns for attention. AKA poor little rich girl/boy syndrome.

This is just sickening. I can't beleive that they don't have an FA up there when one pilot leaves the station. Obviously she wouldn't be able to do anything if the guy killed the engines or turned off some other system, but she could at least open the door and give the CA a fighting chance. It's just...sickening. I know people suffer from terrible mental conditions but seriously, I wish this guy just jumped off a bridge, instead of murdering innocent people.

One point that a coworker made that i hadn't thought about, and haven't seen posted; does anybody think investigators are looking for and/or collecting cell phones/tablets from the crash site? An 8 minute decent is a long time, and I guarantee that people on the flight were recording the whole thing. When the DL CA got locked out a couple months ago here in the US it was all over social media within minutes of landing. There might be some incredible video evidence of what was happening during the final moments.

I don't think there's much doubt with what was happening. The FDR will most likely just show how the FO descended the aircraft. The CVR already indicates the remaining crew trying to regain access and yelling to open up.

Ummmm......ok?? Never the less, we have cockpit keys. We are able to use those keys to open the cockpit from the outside. The original question remains: Is there a deadbolt mechanism that prevents the cockpit from being unlocked with a key? I can't think of one on the ERJ that I fly. Not sure how it works on the Airbus.

Can the cockpit be broken into from the Lav forward wall, in a situation like this, in nearly any jet?

People like to joke about breaking into the cockpit from the lav walls, but in all honesty I think it'd be incredibly difficult to do. I'm not familiar with the 'Bus but breaking through the wall to gain access in 8 min? I wouldn't put my money on it.

Very doubtful. Besides, it takes only a moment to open a lavatory, see what's going on and go into "lockdown".

I figure its a structural bulkhead component and wouldn't be possible.

The additional psychological pressure of the co-pilot having to look a fellow crewmember in the eye before he took their life may have proved to be enough moral dissuasion to keep him from doing what he did. I'd be surprised if we don't see a change in procedures for foreign carriers in that regard.

As to the cellphones, I'm sure they'll be scavenging every possible piece of usable data from every one they find. I suspect at least some of the memory chips survived, even if the phones themselves did not.
