Furlough Estimates

It reminded me of the AFFES post exchange overseas. You can use cash but things got rounded to the nearest nickel because no pennies.

Being bored single twenty somethings looking for things to do to waste time.... We started buying 7cent items one at a time just to be silly.

Buy one 7 cent item it costs 5 cents. Buy two 7 cent items. It cost you 15 cents.

So go thru the checkout line twice if you needed two and only pay 10 cents.

Totally stupid but it occupied us for the afternoon

You should have just shop lifted!

Swedish rounding.

Finland abolished their 1-penni coin in 1980. NZ has a similar scheme. And the Swedes, bless their attempted herd immunity hearts, round to the nearest 25, or something like that.

One week until the SWA early retirement and long term leave bid closes.

Management has been surprisingly effective at keeping the numbers under wraps. Nobody knows how it's going, but judging by the emails reminding people about it I am guessing participation is lower than they're hoping for.

Man, if I wasn't on first year pay and we offered that I'd probably be on it like stink on poo.

For sure they have been good about keeping the numbers quiet. But with as much as a life changing deal this is I can see why people aren’t signing up at the first chance, especially with a 45 day window.

I’m junior to you and 99% sure I’m taking at least the 6 month ExTO, and maybe longer(we had an unexpected death in the family that has thrown off the calculus) so I’m not pulling the trigger until the morning of the 15th.

I'm sorry for your loss. Good luck making your decision. I'm sure it isn't an easy one.

What were they offering you guys? Eskimo is doing 6 to 24 month leaves for 50 hrs a month + sick accrual, vacation, medical, etc.

They are offering 55TFP, plus all other benefits for 6 months to 1-5 year increments. Average guaranteed monthly TFP is 87, it varies by how many days/calendar month.

Oh that’s right I forgot you guys do TFP. So the leave is about 63% of guarantee for you and ours is 73% of guarantee (75hours). Nice it goes all the way to 5 years! Can they call you back early?

Yes subject to a 30 day recall, they will ask for volunteers first then it goes in order of shortest remaining leave and inverse seniority. Planning is working on a way to project
vacancies so those that are out on leave will have an idea if they are getting close to recall.

I haven’t looked that hard at it but they are also saying that they will then go to the personal leave of absence part of the contract if someone is out and can’t come back. I’m not planning on getting entangled with anything that won’t allow me to come back if recalled early so I’m not too worried about it.

The biggest fear that I have is that we are all still subject to furlough if it comes to that.

I bet with the developments of the last 10-14 days, that their original forecasting may need adjustment. That might be a reason for hush hush. We just got a memo about this yesterday. Things had been picking up earlier than forecast, now we're cutting back again as consumers start to go back in their houses.

I guess this is what happens when people can't be bothered to put on a mask or skip going to IHOP (seriously, I drove by an IHOP yesterday and it was packed. Why?)

Almost every place that I've seen with packed parking lots around me has been some awful chain restaurant. Seriously, if you're going to risk the 'Rona, at least support a local business lol

I heard thats what United's email to their people said this morning. Future bookings are dropping off, and cancellations picking up over the next 60 days as places are going back into various stages of lockdown. Also, the 14 day quarantine if you go from a dozen states into NYC is pretty much going to keep people from going there. Not much point traveling if there's nothing to do when you get there, or if you end up holed up in a hotel for 14 days hoping you don't get sick.

The hits just keep on coming. Makes me really jealous of those who are able to take the VSP and put all of this crap behind them.

No way dude. MikeCWeb says I'm a weed smoking idiot for thinking that October 1 will be anything but bad news. You're just doom and gloom. What do you know. There is a gold mine of opportunity for anyone willing to roll up their sleeves and work hard.

I’ve really tried to be optimistic, but I fear for how bad things are going to get come fall. Most regionals are operating 20% of their planned block hours. I have a masters degree and teach courses on the side as an adjunct but it certainly doesn’t pay anywhere near what being a regional CA does. I wish everyone the best.
Yeah, I've tried to be as optimistic as is possible, and all I can say is that "we'll see."
