I don't doubt that its allowed. It just seems like a consequential LOA for the pilot group to be kept in the dark on.That's allowed in ALPA unless the local MEC has a rule in their policy manual against it.

Welcome to ALPA and stuff. Experiences may vary.I don't doubt that its allowed. It just seems like a consequential LOA for the pilot group to be kept in the dark on.
Boy I felt the pity from here.True....The same 200 guys the credit 180 hours a month might be looking at hard times ahead.....Pity.

I agree. And that's why I put it in our policy manual that any changes to the CBA had to go to pilot group vote. But not every pilot group seems to care that much about it.
That's also not always possible to do if there are time constraints involved. We did a few LOAs over here that modified the bidding timeframe and changed how some additional flying gets awarded. They were all for things that would be happening in a few days. If we'd had to go through memrat on them it would have taken several weeks.
There is something to be said for requiring a membership vote on items that effect pay or quality of life, but any CBA change is a bit hard to do.
I qualify and I’m still in my 40’s. If it was 5 years of pay plus medical until I’m Medicare-qualified, I would take it!
It's a challenge to weigh the day to day runnings of the union and doing something for a whole pilot group, vs a more direct democracy. The last time I volunteered was a regional where the pilots level of care was pretty low (because life was pretty good for us). When it was bad, 2014 bad at edv, you had a lot of screaming and yelling but no one really involved or vote wise willing to go against what we advised. That's also not always possible to do if there are time constraints involved. I think I already have those articles from last time. I need to start hanging down by my old crew room with a sign saying "this is why those senior captains you hate so much didn't leave" and a tip jar.The union sent out an email the other day that said this week we should "look for our next edition of our "Preparing for the Storm" newsletter." I'm not saying that's bad news but..........
The tip jar should read, "give me money now, you'll be rich 777 captains by the time your 30 right?"I think I already have those articles from last time.
