Free in-house Delta Pilot Job Fair

The problem is with when you attempt to anonymously troll, you're certainly getting attention, you get hooked on that attention and the more you interact, the more you reveal who you actually are.

And it's a very, very small world. Extremely small.

Anonymity is a fantasy, especially when there are probably at most two degrees of separation between any two pilots.

The Manager of Pilot Development, literally (yes that's the right word), is on that page daily. Daaaaaaaaaily. *footstomp* *footstomp*

Reason # 1,231 I deleted Facebook yeeeaaaarrrrssss ago. Far too many horror stories of pilots screwing themselves and getting fired.

Just don't be a dingleberry and you'll be alright.

Too many guys bang out sick and post a picture from Disneyland, full-on EXIF data, publicly posted on social media….

I don't think this was talked about on here, but I would ASSUME that just like their big job fairs, the people at this one will have their apps scored? I know they say job fairs do nothing else for you. Thoughts?

In your example, why is it assumed there's some kind of fraud involved? There's an equal number of reasons why a pilot is required to call out sick yet is able to go on with their life. Last I checked there's no requirement to be a hermit while out sick but your point is taken and understood.

All the big social media sites have been wiping EXIF data from uploaded images for a long time now. Some of them keep that data in a separate file to be used by law enforcement if warranted (haha) later on.

Umm, errr what?

Just an example.

We had a summer of very indirect warnings from our union about social media and some inquiries from the CPO. I'll have to dig it up but it was probably some time ago, I don't remember.

I guess since I'm off on a tangent, time to go work on my plumbing project, ha! :)

Yeah no reason to go more tangential.

I just spoke with a former coworker who says that each day of this career expo has 500 people. If so and we hired everyone that comes to it, that could be most of our 2017 hires. Any word on if that number is true? I know it's a long shot we hire them all but I guess my greater point is if we hold 1 maybe 2 of these a year and keep drawing that many, this could be our meal ticket going forward and hopefully give us a leg up over the other legacies/majors.

Umm, errr what?

Ok, I guess I was poor in how I asked my question. At job fairs such as OBAP, WAI, etc I've heard that the only thing meeting with the recruiters from DAL does for you is get your app scored. I am asking if this will yield the same results?

I've heard interviews will be handed out. Maybe not on site but I think this will go beyond an app scoring for most that attend.

Whoever said that gave you very inaccurate information.

Ok, so this is more "inaccurate" information. Let's work on getting the "accurate" information out there. This is why everyone stays frustrated. Everything is inaccurate and there is very little that DAL is admitting to. They are getting slightly better recently with coming out on FB and dispelling some myths but nothing along these lines. If you have some concrete info that would correct what I wrote then I would love to get that corrected.

What more accurate info are you wanting? Maybe you're not connected enough to get what you need?

Think of it this way. If Delta admitted they would be handing out interviews, heck even CJOs, on site during this career expo then could imagine how nervous the attendees would be? I get the feeling this whole event is just to get to know the attendees and, to an extent, sell them on Delta. If an interview were to come from this, they want candidates that want to be here and wine and dining them before hand would, I believe, increase the success rate of the interviews. The latter has been falling each year since 2014.

2014 - 78%
2015 - 74%
2016 - 69% so far

What do you mean nervous? That's the whole point of going to these job fairs. If they admitted they would hand out interviews, and that makes you nervous, probably shouldn't attend in the first place.

Most importantly, it's how you are going to sell, present and promote yourself to Delta, and what you are going to do to stand out from everyone else and make them interested in you. Make the best positive connections that you can at this opportunity and shine. One has to go/shoot for way beyond the basics. Those ducks should already be lined up. To whoever is attending, be the professional that they are seeking.

My point is this is supposed to be more laid back and less stressful than an interview. It'll be more informal.

Whoever said that gave you very inaccurate information.

I've heard from someone within Delta that if one attended an OBAP/WIA job fair, as long as they met the mins or more for Delta, and they didn't screw up the face time at the job fair, then they would be guaranteed to get their application scored.

Have that one source and have heard it numerous times from people inside and out of Delta.

If you are saying this isn't true, then this just adds to the list of things that is a disconnect between what is true and what Delta has (or may have) projected to applicants out there.

Lets just say I've heard from a fairly good source within Delta that if one attended an OBAP/WIA job fair, as long as they met the mins or more for Delta, and they didn't screw up the face time at the job fair, then they would be guaranteed to get their application scored.

You and Pilotdude3407 are equating other, typical job fairs to what Delta is organizing. This is not the same as those. Heck, it's not even called a job fair. It's a career expo. This should provide far more face time with a Delta person than those other events.

Let's just say things are changing and you should discard what you've learned about job fairs up until now. Going in thinking it's the same will be a disadvantage.

I wouldn't count on that or even look at it that way. Whoever attends is going to be watched and evaluated no matter the atmosphere or the venue. They have a short opportunity/time frame to make their mark. My advice to attendees is be on your A game at every moment. Words and actions travel fast. That can be a good thing or a not so good thing. You have the control over that. No one else.
