Free in-house Delta Pilot Job Fair

So let me get this straight, so many gripe because they have to belong to and attend job fairs outside their specific demographic..."Oh no, I have to hang out with girls at WAI!" and then Delta does this without fees, without having you choose between airlines because slots are full, and there is still griping. If you are Delta, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Maybe people don't get these jobs for any other reason than they gripe too much, and can't see a good opportunity when it's right in front of them. If you want to work for Delta, then this is a great opportunity. If you choose not to attend, that's on you. Don't gripe about it being so difficult if you are the person that makes it more difficult.

I commend Delta for offering this and hope it means good things for the people here that are grateful for the chance.

Guess I'll change that bid around, though now October 29th and 30th will be harder to hold than Thanksgiving.

Oh no. The gripe is that these "pre interviews" exist in the fist place.

Just because Delta is making it a little less painful than the other ridiculous pre-interviews doesn't mean it is a good thing.

The commendable thing would be dropping this entire mechanism completely. Delta doesn't have to even lift a finger to find teams of qualified applicants. Look through the reams of attractive apps and if you want to get to know any of them better, call them in for an actual interview.

Thats how this whole thing is supposed to work, and how it used to work.

With airline apps throwing out 50% of my logbook, on paper I look like I barely deserve to be a new hire regional FO. I'll gladly do a "pre-interview" if it means I get some face to face.

Preach it, Hacker! Agreed 200% on your posts in this thread.

You really expect an airline to positive space you to get a job?

Really dude?

Why not? My engineering firm flew me positive space for my interview. My brother in-law had an interview in ATL and his company (accounting job) flew him on Delta positive space. Just because this "piloting career" does it the cheap way, doesn't mean it's right.

This has been a very surprising reaction.

I figure if you're looking for a job there and you haven't been able to attend a career fair because of cost, well, here's a free one.

Career fairs aren't a required part of the application process. Go if you want, don't go if you want. They are, however, an opportunity to introduce yourself, hear some pointers and if all of the planets align, it could get you moved to the short list of people to invite to an interview.

Helpful? Absolutely?

Mandatory? Absolutely not.

I guess I've (re-)learned my lesson about publicly sharing yet again. Either you want a free slice of pizza or you don't. Don't harsh on the parade of those that are looking for one simply because YOU are comfortable.

Because this is not an interview. This is a job fair. When you have an interview you will get a positive space ticket. You are trying to get to that point with these.

Derg,

It's the overall gist of this job fair stuff.

If you're a FO..... "go upgrade, get the PIC, maybe try checkairman too."

If you're a CA..... "go be a checkairman"

If you're a CA, and a checkairman, and volunteer work, the whole 9 yards................ "everything looks good, keep up what you're doing, etc"

"OMG! Your resume looks freakin awesome, work and volunteer experience rocks, you're gonna get a call for an interview here in less than 2 months ......" SAID NO LEGACY RECRUITER EVER at these job fairs.

When they're all hiring ~800-900+ a year, there's no reason why they can't make that statement. But they never do.

So don't go.

I don't bitch about the lack of menswear at Lane Bryant.

You speak of things you do not know and people may mistake your perspective as germane to this specific topic.

Things change. What do you want? Oprah to drive up to your house and yell, "You've got a job!" Delta can do whatever they want. Incorporate a talent competition, who cares. The advantage is theirs at this point and they are taking it. It isn't about it being fair. It's a privilege to work for them, not the other way around. If you're bitter, maybe Delta isn't the Air Line for you.

I apologize, I don't mean to speak ill for Delta (or any one company) in particular. And I don't know the specifics of this particular job fair.

I mean the job fair in the traditional sense (OBAP, WIA, NGPA), from feedback I hear from guys I know (at both regionals and LCCs) and their respective responses from the legacies.

Yer too quick, I went back and added more to clarify :)

I'm happy you have a job you enjoy. You can help others find one that hopefully they'll enjoy as much as you do or you can harsh on people embarking on the very path you walked.

Virgin didn't send a police escorted limousine to Jersey to pick you up and grace you with champagne. The nerve of you to act like they did.

Doug, >you< rock, and your help to the community has been, and continues to be, invaluable to so many peoples careers and lives.

My comments have nothing to do with you, please don't take it that way.

I hate the idea of job fairs. But this seems like a no strings attached type deal. Seems like a fair deal to me to find someone "who works at delta".
