Free in-house Delta Pilot Job Fair

Doug, >you< rock, and your help to the community has been, and continues to be, invaluable to so many peoples careers and lives.

My comments have nothing to do with you, please don't take it that way.

Thanks man.

I give you a pass because you're still in that transition to the civilian world so you've lived in the military for most of your work life.

But @Cherokee_Cruiser ought to know better.

Pilots are funny. Derg was shot simply because he was the messenger.

Is Delta or any legacy hurting for interview candidates? I doubt it. Exactly who's time are they wasting at job fairs, compared the interview process? For that, I have an opinion.

I would love, LOVE LOVE!!!!!!! To have said my mind during a recent job fair to a recruiter. "You ma'am have wasted my time if you are the representative of your company." Sadly, that would have killed any chance I would have had to work there, because I know her attitude and lack of reading comprehension doesn't represent the company.

This of course is all non-sequitur to Delta hosting a free job interview session. Wait, pre-interview interview, that's not actually an interview...

As @Toobdrvr says all the time, these job fairs are awesome opportunities to hang out with old friends and meet new friends..and I'm sure this one will be no different.

Plus I haven't had a chance to experience the Delta Flight Musuem yet so that opportunity alone is well worth going to this event.

I look forward meeting some more JC'ers and hopefully all being future colleagues at SJI!

Thank you for the heads up @Derg

I don't understand how a guy who runs a networking website posts a link to a free job fair gets flack for it. This is the reason many posting here don't have a job at mainline...

Who gave Doug flack for anything related to posting about the job fair?

My comments have to do with the idea that, if "the man" decides to only torture prisoners twice a week instead of five times a week, that somehow must be seen as benevolent. It is about the whole job fair concept and pilots' Stockholm-syndrome reaction to it, not about Doug in any way whatsoever.

But that the thing. Spend some time talking to recruiters. Job fairs don't mean poop. It's just another way to get yourself out there. Maybe if people understood what water these events carrierd, they wouldn't spend thousands going to them. Pilots are their own worts enemies in this BS game.

Agreed in principle, but that still doesn't have any relation to giving Doug any kind of beef over this threat.

I guess you're saying that I'm disrespecting him by expressing the opinion in his thread?

Totally not at all the point, either in second or third order effect.

I mean, that's how it came across. He posted this from the Delta Recruiting page and your response was that. Kudos to Delta for doing this because I haven't seen another airline do that. Southwest did similar, but they made you become a slave to your computer just to not get a slot. I owe the majors everything if I want a job. If they are going to do something to help me get hired, I appreciate it. This is coming from someone who can't get hired at Delta with the current requirements.

I mean, that's how it came across.

If that was your point, that's what you should have come out and said then, rather than passive-aggressively saying some un-named person was lobbing grenades at Doug. That's different than saying I was behaving disrespectfully, by a large margin.

I'm a big boy -- I can take actual direct criticism.

And, like you, I think Doug kicks ass and has done great things for the pilot community, and don't have any desire to disrespect him nor his community we are a part of. C'mon...I may not have been around these parts as long as you, but I've been around for people to know that's not what I'm about.

The "job fairs don't mean squat" argument falls a little flat, though, when you have an airline that specifically says, "your application has to get hand-scored before you'll get called in to interview." Then, they tie that hand-scoring to certain specific triggers, with one of them being attendance at a job fair and making a positive impression.

Those actions create these funnels, now, that pilots must travel through enroute to receiving an interview invite. So, simple logic says that the job fairs do, in fact, have a part in the process, especially for pilots who don't have the ability to get the application scoring accomplished through one of the other means.

None the less, I'm just gonna sit over here and choke myself for being an idiot apparently, and call it a night.
