Flying... After a crash..

Saw a mid-air happen that was fatal to a guy I knew. They immediately closed the airport so all of our renters were scattered around various Houston airports (6 planes). I ended up towing the wreckage later that night. Had to fetch the airplanes the next day and bring them home and will admit it was the first and only time I never really wanted to fly. Weird feeling lasted until I started the airplane and by the end of the day all was back to normal. Back in the saddle quickly worked for me.

Just curious how many of you have walked away from a crash and gotten back in the saddle and had "trust" issues with airplanes?

If so, how long did the "trust issues" last for you?

I had a Crash in 2010, it was an off-field precautionary landing that turned into a crash with total loss of airframe, but the 7 of us walked away from it. I was the PIC.

It wasn't easy going back to flying, not much because of the crash itself, but mostly for the fear to find myself again in the same circumstances (weather, low fuel,...) that contributed to the crash.

What I did found out that I was not able to get over it by myself, like just walk into an other plane and fly off again as PIC single pilot...I did it but on the long run some of the fears were affecting my performance, I changed job started flying with other pilots first and in few months I got over it......you really need to find something that will help you build confidence again. Right now I feel I totally recovered from it, experience wise I also have several 1000s hours of flying more......but yeah I was very lucky that day.
