Flight Attendant Rant.

Oh Staplegun, you're on the bad FO list now too! Now I don't feel so bad.

I'm on the list again since today. We had a brand new hire that came to the cockpit to look around and say hi. The older flight attendant ran up to the cockpit, physically pulled her out and exclaimed, "She's GOT to get to work" and slammed our door shut.

I was already done with my duties, so I walked to the back of the aircraft where she was standing around the galley doing nothing, brought her back to the cockpit and introduced her to the rest of the crew and showed her around and we all took time to answer her questions.

Apparently, during the flight, she got a lecture about how all pilots lie, always wear your wedding band, never trust pilots and never 'fraternize' with them. Blah blah blah.

So we got to the layover hotel and the captain covered drinks and tapas for her apart from the rest of the flight attendants. In fact, the rest weren't even invited to go out with us.

Methinks she's going to have a long ride back to JFK but there's no point in wrecking a new employee's spirit so early in the game with your petty emotional baggage. Good for her!

Egads. The NAPA movement is spreading.

'Never Another Pilot Again' is gonna make it hard for a pilot to get an even break in this industry.

Ok, so I'm sitting down at the coffee shop at the airport in Venice, waiting for the mechanics to (unsuccessfully) repair our weather radar.
...will get you on the "evil, misogynistic male" list.

Now I REALLY LOVE THE VIDEO! ;)

Doug,

You know there's an inverse relationship between seniority and distance from Atlanta.

What were you thinking?

I don't know how anyone could put Stapes on the bad FO list! He's cool as a cucumber! :)...I'm sure you are too Dough! :D

Wow! It must suck to be that angry about nothing!

Thanks for doing that.

I absolutely hate that we have to do things like this, but you're setting a good example.

"I wanted to eat with the passengers, not after top of descent."

See you "Jo'ja" boys put up with that! :)

Crack the whip, Most!

We haven't seen many new faces around Southernjets in a while and it's a little weird how catty it gets when there's someone young and fresh onboard. It's almost like they want to hand them six cats, a grimace (not the McDonalds marketing character), an ex-husband and a penchant for disdain of those forward of the cockpit door.

They told her "You're young and cute, you won't always have that so be careful"

Her response: "Ma'am, I appreciate your guidance, but I am 28."

Weeeeeeeeird. New hire pilots show up and it's party time. New hire flight attendants show up and they're ready to claw her eyes out.

Jesus. If I was even remotely considering putting an application into DL, forget it now. What are these women thinking?

Competition. They're mad they can't compete anymore.

I actually think you're right about this.

They still see themselves as the 20-somethings who were hired in the sixties and seventies and expect everyone else to see them that way as well.

Yep. I've met some of the 'older' FAs that were cool.

I told one that when I pack for a trip I "pack a pair of underwear for every day of the trip, plus one bad landing."

She laughed. We had fun that trip.

I've seen others than make me wonder where they keep their shovel. That goes for all ages.

Seems like these 'senior' FAs bought into the glamour and hopes of hooking on with some bigshot making six figures and living the jet-set life. Now they're getting older and finding it harder to compete with the newer, younger FAs. So then hen peck them.

>sigh< Petty, petty, petty.

C'est la vie.

As far as i know, it has always been that way...

I mean when i fly with doug, it can be seen by the passengers. it's that bad.:o

Nah....I think you're right about the glamour and hopes but it's not really the jet-set life they wanted....it's the "settled" SAHM life with kids and a roof over their head they don't have to worry about paying. Since they didn't get the "connection" they were hoping for, they tend to take it out on everyone and passengers notice it too.

now they can't compete anymore like Firebird said and they're bitter about having to continue to work like everyone else.

Very, very sad... I'm embarrassed when I see FA's behave that way, even on Colgan. I almost want to apologize to the pax for their bad behavior. Believe me, pax are very savvy and can spot an "attitude" in no time. Makes for a very "tense" flight and who the hell needs that---especially on the long hauls that Doug flies. My flights are no longer than an hour, so it's not too horribly bad.

Believe you me, i do that sometimes too..feel like apologizing to the pax for their behavior and cattyness (you can't not see that behind the scenes)...sometimes, even tho it's not my duty, i'll ask them if they need some help or be extra nice and accommodating to help them get out of their funk. but some actually take that the wrong way because i'm one of the "pilot's wives" and therefore, i got what they've always wanted (but i still work AND carry my own luggage) and with that, i should "mind my place". weird huh....

personally, i don't really care how they treat me, i'm using the benefits.. but i do feel for the other pax that get the same crappy treatment, they're paying for that bad attitude.

I hate to say it, but i do think delta needs a cleaning out, per se. The pax would probably feel the freshness lighten up and attitude improve when they board the plane...either that or they need to send all the FA's to a "socialization" training program to help them.
