Flight Attendant Rant.

Compete for what? 25 year-olds?

It's probably true that some older women who reveal bitter jealousy toward younger women feel threatened by youth, but how do you know it's all about "competition"?

Maybe they have some other prejudice against young women. Like, maybe young women aren't working as hard these days. Have you seen the media lately? Generations are getting lazier and lazier, feeling more and more entitled.

It might be nice to assume it's all about men - that everything women do, feel, or fight about is over men - but I think you might be surprised to learn we have many priorities.

"They're mad they can't compete anymore" implies mature women flight attendants as a general rule are somehow out of the sexual game.

And you're quite wrong. If they feel the need to "compete," they can. And they'll do quite well - probably just not with the men who want very young women. (Great loss, that. )

There are some that complain about the work ethic of younger flight attendants, but it's in the minority, in my experience. Seems to me that the bitter ones were the ones that looked for the meal ticket connection and fell short of the mark. They're mad they can't compete anymore, and are left working. If it's not money they're competing for, it's male attention.

Stereotypical, yes, but common enough to fit the generalization without being wildly off base.

Her response: "Ma'am, I appreciate your guidance, but I am 28."

Weeeeeeeeird. New hire pilots show up and it's party time. New hire flight attendants show up and they're ready to claw her eyes out.

I know a 23 year old girl who should start with southernjets soon... they've told her she's hired but they're still waiting on her paperwork to process (whatever that means, it must've been a month already).

Sounds like it'll be interesting when she gets online. ;)

She's married, sounds like the fur would really fly if she wasn't!

I've got to agree with you about the animosity between pilots and FA's, Amber. I haven't seen any yet at Colgan. If anything, we all seem to be getting along quite well. It's a bit amazing to me since most of us are new to the profession and the first pilots on the Q were the Colgan veterans. They've exhibited great patience with us and are always eager to help us out and back us up any way they can. Are there pilots I prefer over others? Absolutely, but that's just a personality issue, nothing to do with professionalism and cooperation.

Probobly because they were flying 1900s and their dream was to fly a plane with a FA. ;)

Well, that's how I know we are with the 1900s in AK anyway... :p

OMG! OMG! I can't believe you thought it was hot! (or hott...) that's setting us back 50 years! :) :sarcasm:

Did anyone else find the finger-wagging about no smoking incredibly hot?
honestly speaking, i thought that and the cellphone part were the only good parts of the video! other than that, i thought she spoke too fast and when others were talking in the video, it was hard to keep her tuned in.

i also thought it was just too long too.
