I don't think subpilot is complaining. Sounds to me like he enjoys his job.
the 9-12 days off don't include the work days that I show up at 6am and go home at noon, or the overnighters where I show up at 5pm and get off at 11am the next day. This job has so much free time it is silly. I had a real job for 10 years before this and I have twice the time off than I did before plus I have variety. I hate the 9-5 grind. If you've only got 9 days off a month why don't you quit and get a 'real' job that pays double?
Sure, I'll tell you: Upgrade time is coming down......man I think you guys convinced me enough to put eagle on my regionals list, now please tell me there's truth to upgrades coming down.
Speak for yourself. I can count on getting over 100 hours credited per month, every month. And still getting about 9-12 days off to go with it.
To me, it's like the guy in the corner office saying "Hey! I'm gonna get this fat bonus this year," setting his budget up anticipating the bonus and getting a Xmas turkey instead of $$$.
I hear complaints about first year pay all the time and generally people quote 18k-20k first year but when I talk to friends in the industry this does not seem to be the case. I've heard of 29k at Skywest, and over 30k at XJET. Seems like if you know how to work the system you can gain extra money, such as working 90 hours and being payed for 120. So I wonder what is a realistic estimate of first year regional pay?
but seriously, how do you guys do it on such a salary for the first year? what about the second, third years?
I made that last year (from March to December).I made a little under $15K my first year at Skyway.
Albeit it was back in 1996.
No you ain't. I ain't either.Doug Taylor said:One word for ya! SUGARMOMMA!I'm kidding, I'm kidding.
SO true!Doug Taylor said:But I was blessed with zero debt.
Debt's a dream killer IMHO.
I know, I know, but I don't want a bunch of young, neophyte regional pilots trolling dog parks and suburban wine bars looking for "sugarmommas" because "Doug told me that I need one!"![]()
Just want to add some seriousness to this. If you are lucky enough to have a great, supporting woman, it means everything, especially if that is all you have, besides a few friends!
That support is tremendous! The few dreams that I have and want to pursue are possibilities because of some blessed natural abilities, but more importantly because of the GF. It is amazing what their support means!
Just remember, once and a while we need to give it back to them!
There's a lot of truth to that.
It's not macho to say or cool on other sites to admit, but if the people that are important to you aren't 100% supportive (and lenient at times), it ain't gonna work.
