First Year Pay

That's a pretty eye opening chart. When I do the conservative math for working at my company I actually get around $233,000, which is less than you'd get at the culmination of 5 years if you stayed at FLX. That's actually a pretty compelling argument to go and stay FLX, a downside of course would be the lack of turbine time but as you said that can be worked around, after all you've got 5 years to figure it out ;).

While you certainly were being serious, and I agree that I can't believe the pay is this low, just keep in mind the 20% pay raise FLX dolled out recently. Why did they do that? Because they thought you guys were stellar and making the company loads of money? Umm, no, they are cheap. They did it in order to attract folks such as yourself who saw that the benefits of going there and staying there can outweigh the benefits of working for a SJP. People jumping ship to the regionals have allowed for that pay scale you have there.

Yeah, that is eye opening. 5 years isn't long term IMO. In fact, I see 5 years as short term. Beyond 5 years I believe the compensation at your airline kicks FLX's tail big time. Looks to me FLX is a good choice if you plan to go corporate.

Picking up all sorts of extra time isn't exactly smiled upon all that much either. If you are going to be an hour #####, especially if the company is short, be ready to deal with the consiquences.

HAHAHHAAHAHAHAH

You mean getting the stink eye from you? I'd like you to say something to my face about my picking up extra time.

I bet you won't.

and its spelled Consequences deek

Wow, threatening someone on an internet forum.

Studly.

We're not that type of site, bro.

My first year is coming to a close in 2 days . . . the grand total (trumpet fanfare!!!) $23,842.79 (net)

Is that with a capital "C"?:yup:

Oh yeah, we do meet face to face around here . . . you should come.

A realistic estimate of your first year, or any year pay, is your hourly rate multipled by your guarantee. Anything else you can't count on.

Speak for yourself. I can count on getting over 100 hours credited per month, every month. And still getting about 9-12 days off to go with it.

I hear complaints about first year pay all the time and generally people quote 18k-20k first year but when I talk to friends in the industry this does not seem to be the case. I've heard of 29k at Skywest, and over 30k at XJET. Seems like if you know how to work the system you can gain extra money, such as working 90 hours and being payed for 120. So I wonder what is a realistic estimate of first year regional pay?
That's for pilots who come out of training and are holding a line shortly thereafter.

In my case, I bid the CRJ...which resulted in my being on reserve indefinitely. I've not flown over my guarantee once - and will not until I can hold a line, which I'm told, won't be this year and maybe not until well into next (if I stay).

Last year, after taxes, I brought home about $16K (remember though, it wasn't a full year as I started in March).

I've done the math and the difference between being on reserve and holding a line can be anywhere from $4-10K a year more for line-holders.

Something to think about.

Just checking, bro! Good colorectal health is muy importante to professional aviators!

ouch, I feel your pain. I would have a hard time sticking around in your situation. But hey, don't forget that they still have an option for 25 more CRJs.:laff:

That is from an 80hr line at base pay. 10 hours of 120% OT and 10 hours of 150% OT. I have my line built up to 99.5 hours and as soon as I project over 100 hours I call crew scheduling and have a turn taken off my schedule (with pay). With all the weather we have been flying around lately I am getting a trip removed with pay about once every 3-4 work days. You just have to work the system and it is survivable around here.
This is a very fine example of the disparity of schedules at the same airline. Subpilot is on the Saab, I'm on the CRJ. I've been here longer than he has and he's making twice what I make.

:yup::yup::yup:
You're funny.

Back in February, I flew with one of the schoolhouse pukes who was out on the line getting his currency in the real plane. His quote:

"Hey, look for the announcement next month - it's a done deal- we're getting the additional 25 CRJs."

This is July. Have you seen that announcement?

Me either. :rolleyes:

If you've only got 9 days off a month why don't you quit and get a 'real' job that pays double?

I know how that goes!

(whispered in the hallway)

"Dude, ahhh. I've got a friend who knows a guy that sat next to a guy in the speedline that was talking to (insert big muckety-muck name) and ahhh, he was finalizing orders on 200 787's... Ahhh, keep this on the down low... Ahhh...."

I mean, it's NUTS around here sometimes. Aside from the CRJ's here's some other "done deals" I've heard in the pipeline:

- We're consolidating our seniority list with A.A. (nevermind that we're represented by two entirely different unions);

- We're phasing out the Saab (heard that one in the interview last year - meanwhile, they are bringing them back out of the dessert);

- We're scrapping the EMB's, CRJ's & the Saabs and bringing the EMB-90 on line (Another schoolhouse brainchild);

There's more, but my brain locked up from the frustration. :D
