Fired for?

4 years is a long time to plan a trolljob. Expectations are high for entertainment value. This better be good

Might as well be, I think they pay F/O's $250/week. Not sure about captains though.

I had a friend who left amflight for something that did not work out and ended up here. When he came to visit he said how much he missed AMFlight. He was making $75k there which was way better than amf, but the schedule demands were aweful. The dispatchers were untrained and pressured him to fly in conditions and schedules that were pushing it. Calls all hours of day and night with flights to random places that pushed legal schedule boundaries, working 6 days a week with your 24 hours "off" where ever you are when your 6 days are up.

I talked to a guy the other day that worked there. Hem made really good money, but the way he described how they handle rest requirements was downright illegal. He said the POI is buddies with the owner or something and just looks the other way. "24 hours on call" Which we all know, through numerous interpretations from the chief counsel's office is no bueno.

How do you post a few lines and everyone is trying to help you by understanding the problems, You don't show up and responed to anyone?

I am hoping he is writing a four line description of what happened describing in full both incidences the firing, and his legal battle since then. Maybe he is waiting to have it proofread for clarity before presenting to this tough crowd.

Um... I thought the objective was to drink berr, fly geetz, make money, bag honies. Not see who can eek out a living on $200 a week. What am I missing here?

$200 a week? That sounds like the Ramen noodle, Micky D's frat house diet.

I'm assuming he abandoned ship because of this tough crowd. This dude obviously isn't having a good week and you guys throw salt on the wound by saying he was probably fired because of his communication skills.

I've got no doubt this guy was fired by a shady outfit for a complete BS reason, it happens all the time. You don't move the rig, they'll find someone who will. It's totally dangerous and absurd but it happens.

Now I'll take a shot in the dark and say this company was GTA. I don't know much about them but I have talked to some of their pilots in the crew room and this seems par for the course.

For the record, that's not what i was saying. He came here for advice, but if you don't tell me anything and keep it cryptic, I can't give an accurate or complete opinion. My request was simply for more info and info that tied in to one another, or otherwise a more complete picture.

That is totally understandable. You had to fish for a little information in order to get the guy the input he was looking for. I was more referring to the one guy that came out and said he was probably fired because he doesn't communicate well. If that was the case I doubt he would have ever made it any farther than an interview much less training.

I could be wrong here, maybe he wrote up the airplane, walked in the fbo, took a nap and never called dispatch to tell them his plane was grounded. That would be a legit reason to fire someone over their lack of communication skills.

That's the nature of this beast. We are a self-cleansing industry. If one can't handle getting their balls busted, taking flak, or able to give it back, this probably isn't the right industry for them. I've found that people not initiated into this business are shocked at the way we banter with each other. I don't think it's isolated to this forum. I think this is who we are, as an industry. I know that when I get around non-aviation people, it's a whole different professional dynamic.

I'm not sure I agree with this. The concept that we're all ball busters and you better learn to live with it doesn't hold true for me.

I know there are people here who have been in this industry much longer than I have. In my short 26 years I've known many people who can bust balls, I've been known to on occasion, but I think most have known who you can give a hard time to and who you can't.

I don't think I would ever be hard on someone I didn't know. Definitely in a crew environment. Everything I've learned about interpersonal skills has pointed to the necessity of understanding that people interact differently and my way is no better or worse than the next guys.

Someone who can't adapt to diverse personalities may be in the wrong industry.

The OP rated a ball busting for his hit n' run.

Honestly, I was really interested in lurking this thread to see what happened, and what the pro's were going to say about dealing with it professionally. It would have a great thread for low time guys new to the industry.

And I was left abandoned in my time of need. :p
