Ferry Pilots

By the way, I have met several pilots along my career who all commute back home for cfi jobs or other jobs. See, a pilot from San Francisco works part time for a charter company. He gets a job with Delta airlines and has to move to the hub in Atlanta. So now, on his days off he commutes (for free) back to San Francisco to work his part time job. Is it ground upon? Maybe by some...

You could also argue that the airlineade him move so he should be able to go back home to work is other job. Idk...ill use whatever resources are available to me.

I've worked for 4 airlines and it is the same system. Infact, I worked the ticket counter at 2 of them and it is literally the same entry code to list someone with benefits on a flight. The "priority" is the same at each airline as well. I was a flight attendant and commuted on basically every airline domestically. It's all the same. I had priority over the ticket counter people even on airlines other than the one I worked for. It's a "cabin seat agreement" specifically for commuting flight crews. Ill never bump anyone. But thanks for your input.
You're completely missing the point. Someday you will want to use those benefits for WHATEVER THE DAMN REASON MAY BE THEY'RE YOUR BENNIES AREN'T THEY?

But then some douchenozzle is going to be abusing his bennies and you'll get bumped.

But please, carry on however you'd like, you have the stubborness of a 5th grade child

These are my flight privileges.

I suspect your company might have a different phraseology with regard to the bennies....

... and it's already been ok'd with my manager. I currently commute from sacramento to Phoenix ever other week to fly a Barron. The manager knows this and is fine with it. I appreciate your concern. However, I am just trying to build a little extra time.

I'm just curious here, are you saying your company doesn't have a rule that prohibits this, or your manager is complicit in the violation?

This is a COMPLETELY different situation. I'm done here good luck to you

If they are commuting home, they are using their privileges to get home, if they happen to have a part time gig at home that's got nothing to do with the commute.

You sound jealous...has this happened to you before? Because it has happened to me! That's just how it works. If they have a higher priority then they go and you don't. I'm not abusing anything. You know a ton of "outside" airline knowledge. Ontop of pilots having higher priority than ticket agents...they also get to sit in the real "jump seat" and I don't. So if the flight is full they can still sit in the cockpit. I'm not stealing anything from anyone. If your jealous then apparently you are acting like a 5th grade child! I'm sorry that I have the opportunity to fly anywhere for work.

I'm talking about pilots commuting back to where they are from. The pilot in my example now lives in and calls Atlanta "home".

I have said this before but clearly you don't listen. I HAVE NO INTENTION OF EVER GOING TO A 121. YOUR ABUSING OF BENNIES WILL NEVER AFFECT ME. (Except with you and your kind undercutting me for jobs like ferries but that's beside the point)

I'm not jealous, I could give two s***s about you and your damn benefits.

Please, once you finally find yourself a ferry flight, tell the captain of the flight your reason for being in his airplane. They're your benefits afterall right? No one can take them away.

It wouldn't be abusing per se since most commuters have crashpads in the domiciles anyway so they still "sorta live" in the domiciles sort of backwards to the situation you mentioned.

This is absurd, I'm done here. You're getting me riled up over nothing. You really should take a step back and listen when 15+ professionals are telling you something about the industry you hope to break into.

You think these captains care? Like I said before. Most people are happy to help. Most captains would just ask me about the ferry flight and be totally cool. And like I said before...most ferry gigs DO NOT pay for you to fly there. Most want you to have benefits.

In my example the pilot is still using the benefits to get to another job. NOT to go home. This is very common.

If people here actually know who your are, and it is against the company rules to do what you are doing, you might want to consider dropping this argument. Obviously you are going to do what you are going to do, but attempting to justify it makes zero sense. Down the road, when one of them is looking at you across the desk in HR, this might come up in conversation. In that persons mind, the thought of "what other short cuts and rule breaking is he / she capable of?"

That's all I'm going to say on the subject. You have a nice evening !

Hope to break into??? I'm a new pilot...not new to the airline industry. Very familiar with how it works and what goes on behind closed doors.

Flight attendant
Assistant dispatcher
Ticket counter
Ramp operations/weight and balance coordinator.

Look...I understand what you are saying. But as a former flight crew member and someone that has had flight benefits for over 5 years, I am just saying that this is something that almost everyone does. It's also something that management doesn't worry a whole lot about.

I'm just the one that is open about what I do with my benefits. So I'm the bad guy.

Great argument! I worked the front desk for a law firm, but I'm basically a lawyer, same thing right?

Haha...that's a good comparison.

But it's not relevant. Do you have any idea how similar flight attendant and pilot life styles are? Reserve is the same, bases are the same, hours are the same, and oh ya...flight benefits are the same!!

I'm just letting you know that I know the job...I know the industry. I've done everything pilots do at an airline except fly the plane.

If I had ever heard of a nonreving pax or pilot doing this on my aircraft I'd kick their ass to the curb, file the appropriate report, and gladly watch them lose their benefits. Every airline is very specific when it comes to nonreving benefits... you are not allowed to non rev for the purpose of personal business.

Actually it is a perfect comparison... it is easy to read and should be easy to understand. In your case I guess we will make an exception. You have zero idea about what goes on the flightdeck of a 121 aircraft simply based upon your work experience as a flight attendant, ramper, or CSA. You are two for two... yesterday arguing about how you being in a jet for 22k/year is ok and now this. Why are you provoking such arguments? Ever heard of the saying "you have two ears and one mouth... so listen twice as much as you speak"? I'm sure you are a nice person but you aren't doing yourself any favors by not learning before preaching.
